She needs a new transmission folks...$5,900!!!! On the bright side, it will come with 3 year unlimited mile warrantee and it's a miracle they have one in stock...they told me it could be rebuilt but it would take time and the labor involved wouldn't save me much...I'm going to pretend that I'm buying a used car and be done with it...?
Why am I not surprised?

Nope..Nope... With your milage, if you did not want to tackle it yourself (and I don't blame you), I would find a good transmission specialty shop in your area. You will get potentially less expensive repair but also a MUCH BETTER and more thorough repair.

Maybe but this dealership seems to be on top of things all around...not my original dealership but one that my wife's dealt with often with her 2011 Explorer with 200K...they've been great with communication and got back to me with diagnosis within hours of dropping off this morning...they explained that rebuilding is possible but not advised as the labor would be over 5K and not counting parts involved...since they have a brand new crate transmission on hand with warranty, I think I'd rather save time and grief over $$$...if I go hunting around to AAMCO and save a grand but not have my truck for another week or more...that's gong to haunt me everyday until I get my truck back...

smart move and AAMCO - no thanks. I think most of us that have suffered similar misfortunes or setbacks - certainly not limited to an auto experience - we struggle with accepting it in the short term , including of course feelings of anger and frustration. But I think it's innate to eventually accept it, get over the hump and put the incident in the rear view mirror. I wouldn't want to take a chance on a more riskier avenue and have it backfire, that would be mentally draining. Been there done that, not fun.

If I was going rebuilt, I would definitely go with a trans shop and not let the Ford techs deal with. But then again, that would cost about 3K for a rebuild, with a 1-year warranty, if you were lucky.
This way, OP is getting a brand new trans and 3-year unlimited mile warranty. No trans shop would offer that.

Sorry to hear about the results Sid. Look at the bright side. You can now start back on your 2 hour lunch runs and start racking up those miles again. :captain:?

My odo's at 99,131 miles when I dropped her off this morning...I'm hoping they don't add another 900 test drive miles so we can roll through the 100K mark together into the new year and begin a new chapter for Msfitoy 3.0...
