One of my friends, just told me this afternoon, that his F150 Platinum would be delivered tomorrow. Now get this... It is a used 2021 (Ford program vehicle actually), with 3,100 miles on it. And he paid... $91,949!
That is almost 4 times what I paid for my starter home! (3.7x to be exact). To be fair, it may not be that much smaller, either.

And that was 40 years ago...

Retired, work is a four letter word.
My 1st house, a 3 bedroom 2 bath place in Texas, was $17K, about half what the Ranger cost me  My 1st new car was $3200, but in all fairness my income is much much higher now :)

someone missed the point.

the last thing I'd be driving to work every day for a 150mi/day commute would be anything that gets less than 30mpg.

sure, I'd want something reasonably comfortable if I'm sitting in it that much, so a random shitbox economy car wouldn't be my first preference, but to automatically assume that I'm making any reference to an electric car (150mi/day commuting in most electric cars would suck, too) is pretty disingenuous and screams to me that you're pushing an agenda. there are still plenty of gassers out there getting over 30mpg, and even a couple over 40.

bigger lesson, I think, is living that far away from work just sucks.
sorry if my reaction was miscalculated. But you did state, " as long as people still choose to do this, gas probably still isn't expensive enough, sadly" Not sure how my interpretation was off.

Gas will never be too expensive for me to drive to work. You see, most of our work is oil exploration and production related. So higher gas means more drilling means more work means more money in my pocket.

Back to the topic.
$91K for and F350 is off the charts. But why buy a 350 without dual wheels?

I mean...it's wasteful.

It's wasteful of a whole lot of resources (not just gas), including time.

How expensive does fuel have to be, for people to reconsider buying a 350 to commute 150mi/day? Or for people to even reconsider living that far away from where they work?

We don't know what we don't know.
Maybe the guy actually DOES have a 5th wheel trailer to tow.
Maybe the guy has the best job he can have for where he is in his life.
Maybe the guy doesn't have many job opportunities for where he is geographically in WV, and this is as good as he can get for his area of the world.
Maybe the guy has enough money that he can afford to do this and be comfortable, and maybe we oughtn't judge him for that.
He's certainly not ruining the planet or the economy all by himself.

You want gas to be higher? I can't believe anyone actually thinks this is a good thing. I guess you think that will "save the planet". What happens when gas too expensive for the majority of the world? We'll all be buying electric cars? What do you think generates most of the electricity in the US? Coal firing plants. All you're doing is going from one fossil fuel to another. I always laugh at people who for example buy a Prius because of the gas mileage. They make the engine in South America, then ship them to Japan where they are assembled and then shipped to the US. They burn more fuel before their ever cranked up then the owner could reduce by driving it a very very long time. But don't think that Prius owner doesn't look at you and think you're a jerk for driving that gas guzzling Ranger.
Well I’m not an expert in this but according to the gov’t coal is not the dominant fuel used to generate electricity. It’s been shrinking for decades and has been overtaken by natural gas. Still fossil fuel but much, much cleaner. Your point still valid that it’s fossil fuel but take a look at the link, 40% of electricity is now generated either by nuclear power or some renewable. Times are changing.

If you do have a 5th wheel to tow, and still live that far from work, it's probably a better idea to have something fuel efficient for the big drive. Maybe this guy does, and just wanted to show off? I won't fault him that. But the way it's been presented here doesn't match that.

I imagine if he can afford a 90k+ truck, it's a decent enough job. Rather, it's more about the choice of where to live. And yeah, if it's all down to choices, then I'm gonna make judgements about them. Not apologizing for that.

Jesus christ Karen, don't you have some kids skateboarding down your street to scream at?
