I received a 2020 XLT with the keypad mounted on the driver’s door. I’m not a huge fan of the location and I see some people mentioned they were able to mount it by the gas tank, and others say it doesn’t fit.

can anyone confirm if they were able to mount it elsewhere with some pictures showing how it looks? Were you able to reuse the tape or did you use new mounting tape?

I believe if you move it to inside the gas filler door you have to remove the cover. There are tons of photos of people who've moved them to various places. Here are a couple:

I'm almost positive you'd need to replace the tape in order to move it.

Yup, you have to just pop the cover off. I saved the picture below because I thought about getting one of these. But after hearing the problems some had I figured I'd wait and see if they fixed it.

You can just warm it up some with a hair dryer (not to hot) and use a piece of fishing one or dental floss to release the tape from the door. If there's any sticky residue just use a little alcohol or WD 40 on a rag and re-wax that area.

I had Zero interest in the keypad until I saw it installed on the fuel door.

Now I'm interested!

But then after reading the linked threads there appears to be a battery issue with them and changing the battery seems to be a pain, maybe will wait a bit longer.

Still, very clever idea!

This also reminded me of THIS device where you simply tap out a code on the glass to unlock your car.

I've always thought it would be a better solution than a keypad ever since I was once at a Ford dealer and randomly tapped the keypad on a new car and all the doors popped unlocked.

Shoulda played the lottery.

I would imagine that glass tap thingy would have to be mounted on the windshield or back window since the sensor might peel off when you roll the window down?

Normally near the bottom of the driver A-pillar.

I'm sure this was in the links that @RedlandRanger posted. I read through those a while back but thought I'd give you the Cliff notes version save you from searching for the pic. :)

I had keypads on my last two Sport Tracs and wife's Fusion and really wanted to put one on my Ranger as I got so used to them. But honestly after months of not having one and the auto unlock/lock feature that my Lariant has I don't miss it. Still wish the Ranger had it built into the door pillar like other Fords tho.

We had one on our Escape. We used it ONCE in 8 years, to check it out when we first got it.

Had I ended up buying a Ranger with this tacky stick on garbage on it I considered moving it to the fuel door but would've probably just removed and discarded.

With modern keyless entry they are especially useless. Not to mention a magnet for car burglars/thiefs.

Hi, reviving an older thread, I am thinking about removing the keypad on my new Lariat. It has remote start via the app. Is the keypad on my truck wireless? Just want to make sure there isn't a hole under there, thanks!

Yes it's wireless. You can use dental floss or fishing line to remove it.
