There is a single bolt at the top center of the back under a fabric tag that hides it from sight. Remove the bolt and the back easily lifts out. No tugging necessary. I had previously removed the headrests as no one ever rides in the back.

I removed the vents and covered them, then reinstalled. Depending on how you decide to cover the vents, removal may not be necessary.

I'll take your word for it. I removed the bolt, but there appeared to be something else holding them in place, they wouldn't budge. Wouldn't be the first time though that I did something wrong. Took me a long time to discover that both headrests posts had a latch. I tugged and tugged on them and they just don't want to come out unless you release both latches.

Maybe you got the new "Improved version"! Did you try lifting up and then out? I have empathy for you. I find the my 2020 Ranger to be harder to do most things that I do in my 2005 Ranger. And the 2005 was much harder to work on than my 1996 2.3L Ranger.

Then again, maybe it is me just becoming an old man!

For people who covered the engine air intake vent with the cloth - how did you go about securing it, the tape I used for the cabin air and rear vents will not stay due to the weird bends.

Thanks, I'll have to try again. I yanked and pulled on them and could never get the magic handshake to get them off.

not sure if you’re still aiming to get them out, see if they shake side to side without the bolt, if so it’s just a matter of pulling up them outwards. The first time I did it I thought i broke something.

I didn't use cloth, I used 1/4" wire mesh that I simply formed around the air intake like this.

The same stuff over a lawn mower filter for the AC intake vents held in place with doublesided tape. I removed the filter material and added the same wire mesh that I used in the air intake. 3 for $10 at Amazon.

I then completed the job by blocking the vents behind the seats

I haven't done mine yet but will most likely have to moving here in the woods again. This aluminum foil HVAC tape works great and will stick to just about anything and you can easily fold it around corners. Lowe's and HD carry this too.

So I've had a bunch of mouse/chipmunk troubles over the past 5 years of ownership. I put a glue trap every now and then in the passenger seat well and put a french fry on the center of it. if I don't catch a mouse, there isn't one to catch. I also have put a $5 bounty on chipmunks that my kids (11 and 13) try to retire off of. It's worth it as we have what seems to be a never ending chipmunk well somewhere on our property.

That’s similar to the one I’m using. I’m gonna see if I can cut and bend a new piece of the mesh to be more angular so it doesn’t want to pop off then. Thanks!

So...the night before last, my truck alarm went off at 1 am, I unlocked the door and relocked the vehicle with my remote, all was good. Then last night, my truck alarm went off at 2 am. Hum, both times my phone stated my hood was opened. So today I opened the hood and found chewed up paper on top of the engine, yes the rats are back and even though I had dryer sheets tied across my engine compartment, I guess they are now numb to the smell. I checked the wires to the front hood switch, and all looked good as did everything else in the engine compartment. For some reason, I opened the glove box and noticed a napkin with green border print on it, it was identical to the one that was chewed up that was on top of the engine. Removing the glove box, I found the rat had eaten through the AC plenum grill above where the cabin filter sits. It had also chewed through 2 wires of one of the main harnesses that sits next to the AC plenum grill. One of the wires was to the passenger door switch (display showed the passenger door was ajar this morning). I'm hoping this wire is what caused my alarm to go off as I don't see any other damage, my fingers are crossed! I zip tied a metal screen over the plastic plenum grill and repaired the wire harness, also replaced the cabin filter because it had rat sh..... in it.

I also pulled the windshield trim panels that cover the windshield wiper linkage and motor (last picture), hoping I could put screens over the opening to prevent rats from entering, it would be a major task, not impossible, but would be a pain because there are 5 openings rats could get through, one would have to epoxy or glue the screens in place and on the driver's side there is not much room because of the wiper motor and linkage. If anyone has an idea, please chime in! I will be setting some rat traps out by my truck this evening, happy hunting!
