Morning Guys -

I was thinking of this topic… and wanted to post and see what you guys have used product wise on these brands (quick detailer, spray wax, etc) and which one you you guys prefer?

I know most of us prefer other brands but this was just something that I thought about since they both are old school and both have amazing car shows and all.

So anyone wanna debate what they liked, used and hated? ??

All my car cleaning and protection is Meguiars. Great products and I don't have to mail order it.

I used Mother's wax for decades but a few years ago I had surgery on my hands and it was too hard for me to use comfortably. Was at the Ford Nationals in Carlisle and rolled up to the Meguier's display and explained my situation. They recommended their Gold Class paste wax as it was softer and easy to apply and buff off. I liked it and been using it since.

I use both brands. I like synthetic waxes because they last longer and don't stain plastic trim but they do not have any abrasives (like cleaner wax) in them to remove the road film so they require a polish step first. Meguires came out with a synthetic wax product with a mild abrasive called Tech Wax 2.0. that is my go to product for my vehicles that sit outside.

My Barracuda gets more care and I will polish it first before applying wax. I will use Meguires or Mother's polish, whatever is on the shelf or cheaper when I go to the store. I have used both Meguires Hybrid Ceramic and Mothers CMX ceramic after the polish. If you follow Meguires instructions and apply the Hybrid ceramic wet you will use most of a bottle for one application. If you apply it to a dry surface with an applicator it takes some effort to buff out. The CMX goes on with an applicator and is effortless, you can really get away without buffing. The CMX is my ceramic product of choice.

I have tried every detail spray out there and have not found one to be any different than the others. I was talking to a guy from the Porsche club and he said to try Lucas Speed Wax as a detailer. I did and this stuff is great, you apply it just like a detailer and it buffs right out as you go along, super simple and it leaves a nice slick surface.

An editorial comment regarding all the designer waxes and car care products. I feel that most of the alcolades they get are the result of a placebo effect. I go to a lot of car shows and cruise nights and see a lot of stunning paint jobs. You would be surprised at how many of the folks that own these vehicles are actually using run of the mill products from Meguires, Mother's or Turtle Wax.

I was at Barrett Jackson in 2019 and Mothers had a big display outside and they were pushing thier CMX ceramic product. Watched the rep clay, polish and apply CMX to the fender of a Chevelle. He carried on about how great it looked compared to the rest of the car. The Chevelle looked great before he started and no matter what angle I looked at it I couldn't see that he had made an improvement.

I've used both in the past with great results. They were the old paste wax and those are a wrist breaker to remove and have switched over the years to spray wax.

First was Optinimum products which are very good but out here I was having trouble finding something that would last more than 6 months with our heat/UV rays. In late 2020 I tried the 303 Graphene and when doing 3 coats it will late a solid year + out here. Now with their Graphene Detailer (which adds a touch of Graphene finish) I find this is the perfect pair for me. It's quick and easy to use and doesn't break your arm removing it only you over apply it. The shine and slickness from the detailer lasts a solid 4-6 weeks.

Honestly most of these waxes today are going to give you great results, they're far superior to the old paste waxes. Just play around with them and find out which one you like best. If you're not the type who likes to detail your vehicle just get a Ceramic Coating and be done with it. This way you'll only have to wash it and hit it with some detailer every now and then.

Meguiars all day. That is all that I use.

I "interned" with a big name professional detailer for a summer for my career, and all he used was Meguiars.

Their products are professional grade without the insane markups.

I would say I prefer meguiars, no real reason, just what I started with and honestly a lot of their consumer products are more user friendly versions of their professional line.

They also have a full detailer line of bulk dilutable chemicals which go a long way.

At the end of the day there’s a good saying from Mike Phillips formerly of Autogeek and Meguiars. Find something you like and use it often. No sense chasing your tail for the next greatest product. Many good ones out there that rival the boutique brands.

That's what I use on my vehicles. It really makes tires shine
It holds up pretty good also.
And if you don't like that much shine , just wipe some off ... I have the gloss black wheels so I like the tires a little dull , but the opposite on wifeys ... good stuff , but I'm open to anything better ...

I do remember reading a short while back that both of the M's had subpar products for the interior black restore stuff (armoror all )
