Camilus boot knife. Nothing fancy, but it’s pointy.

Used to be my travel companion until that time I forgot it was with me when I was checking in to an international flight. Oops.
Now it lives in my work van.

So I have been looking at dropping some $ on a really good gyuto, I have had Grohman chef knives, various Victorinox fibrox, and a global santoku. After doing more research I am getting worried about the brittleness of a higher-end gyuto, I have been reading stories and watching videos where the knives break or chip very easily given their higher hardness ratings. I don't "abuse" my knives but I do not baby them either. I want this knife to be my daily driver, I don't want to switch when I need to chop harder veg like squash or take the pit out of an avocado (probably made someone cringe mentioning pit) or maybe even slice rib roast off the bone so, are they really that sensitive? Or is it more common sense do not to treat it like a cleaver, screwdriver, or pry-bar type thing? And if it varies by the brand is there a Rockwell rating or other spec I should be looking at? Thanks in advance!!
I'm not a chef. But I'm into bladesteel enough I can make a suggestion. Not sure what "some money" means to you or "really good," for that matter.

But this guy will cost you less than a tune for your Ranger...

It's traditional San Mai construction sandwiches the harder Aogami Super Blue steel between 2 layers of SUS410 stainless. This protects the hard edge from chipping and provides a small measure of added flexibility.

They also make this guy...

Although the Wakiita series is a single steel.

For the money, I'd spring for the Itamea

Ohh, and if I didn't tell you guys, I'm a SpyderHo.

SOG Trident. I thought the assisted opening was the coolest thing at first. It didn’t last very long but customer service was outstanding and they replaced the knife.
Also learned to not fully trust the locking system.
Appears they’ve changed the design since I bought mine so perhaps these things have been addressed.

BK 9” Combat Bowie. It’s been a rugged reliable camp knife for years.

Love these little Tool Logic folders. This one has a removable magnetic flashlight. The one in the Ranger has a fire steel.

A couple from SOGs Fusion line. Economy $$ and steel to match.
Although dings do hammer and grind out quickly. :p

We've been watching the TV show Forged In Fire...it never occurred to me how many different ways there were to make an edged weapon, and how many different kinds of metals can be used.

Some of the blades you guys are showing are incredibly cool, for sure. Keep it up!

Mean little knife in W2 steel with barbwire brown scales and brass pins. Liontribe designs is the maker and the model is the Manchester.

thank you so much for your suggestions,
You might want to try bladeforums website. In the forums section go to “The knife exchange” then “Knifemakers market: knives and more”. This is where knife makers post up their creations for sale. There are some very good knives at reasonable prices.

I have a couple kitchen knives that I am very happy with and got them at low prices.

This is a petty knife made by Brush creek. Maple Burl scales with AEB-L steel.
