Hey guys,

I have a 2019 ranger xlt 4x4. I’ve had it for a two years it has close to 75k in miles. Having what seems like a tcb transmission issue. Shifts really hard in lower gears and is starting to get worse. From what I have read on here it’s the tcb or whatever. I haven’t had any lights come on or stales. How can I confirm this is the problem? I have an extended warranty that will cover it but I want to be certain it’s this before I take it in.

Might as well take it in. Unless you want to do a fluid change before then, if it hasn't been done it is probably already too late. Just let the dealer fix it.

It's CDF Drum btw. May or may not be the problem.

It’s not a dealer warranty which is why I want to make sure. How can you test the cdf drum?

Also if the cdf drum is the problem do they replace the entire tranny? And is it gonna happen again in another 75k miles?

GLWT.

There's a procedure to test it, but as far as know it requires specialized tools.

If it were me, I would do a fluid change with a bottle of Lubegard to see if the valve body frees up. Worth a shot. If it works then it is not the CDF, if it doesn't change for the better, then my thoughts and prayers are with you getting an aftermarket warranty to cover a trans. They're probably going to want to rebuild it, which isn't necessarily a bad thing if the shop is competent. But properly rebuilding an auto trans is an art, and they need to replace the valve body while they're there.

As long as you get all updated parts, the problems should be largely solved..

But, just because it is replaced, you would do well to ignore the 150k fluid change and do it at least every 30k, and I would still use the LG even with an updated valve body. I'm not entirely sure they have updated it 'far enough'' to make it long term reliable.

I would take it in asap if you have a warranty. Even if you have to cover the diagnostic fee. The updated 22.5 and newer transmission is so much better. When mine was replaced, my first thought was it never felt so good. Its seamless now.

You have a 4x4 and the new updated transmission is really cheap compared to having it rebuilt. I think you were referring to a TSB and yes there are steps in the latest TSB to test for CDF drum failure. Depending on your extended warranty you may have to pay for it to be tested but it should be fairly cheap to do so.
