I know this was a few years ago but I tried something (that seemed to make sense to me). I wanted my cake and wanted to eat it too...Like he said, it's a joke. Unless you move the air filter out of the engine bay, it's always going to be sucking in hot air from under the hood. Intakes that use the stock lower box try to combat this a bit by using the stock "scoop" that pulls from the front edge of the hood.
Are you just running upgraded charge pipes or do you have an intercooler as well?I know this was a few years ago but I tried something (that seemed to make sense to me). I wanted my cake and wanted to eat it too...
I carved up the stock intake snorkel so it would blow directly at the air filter. The modified snorkel presses against the Injen trim seal so all the air coming in from the front edge of the hood is funneled to the bottom of the air filter.
As far as "turbo sound" is concerned... I have an abundance of it. It's one of the 1st things people comment on when I give them a lift. Any time I point my toe,,, it gets loud. You can hear it sucking air like a leaf vacuum. My truck screams like a Raped Ape !

I'm not familiar with the S&B. I had the Roush CAI 1st. Did not notice much of a gain over the OEM air box with the Roush but I wanted it on the truck for looks. But,,, performance always beats looks so I switched to the Injen. LOVE IT !!! You can hear it sucking in air like crazy. Are you just running upgraded charge pipes or do you have an intercooler as well?
Wish I could get a unbiased answer to which CAI offers the most benefits between the Injen and S&B.. Info on the performance of the S&B for our trucks specifically is pretty scarce I've found..
Unless you’re trying to make over 350 wheel horsepower then it’s not going to be a factor. Pick the one you like. Injen makes more noise but some people have a problem with it because they are afraid of hot air ?Are you just running upgraded charge pipes or do you have an intercooler as well?

So I have an OBD Link MX installed so I can monitor transmission temps as well as IAT. How are you able to monitor your charge temps? Is there a PID specific to that?I don’t believe in the stock intake, it might be cooler but it is quite restrictive and turbulent. All intakes tend to heat up at lower speeds (some more than others)
I wouldn’t rock crawl with an open intake but for daily driving and overall performance I think they work great. The heat goes away rapidly and doesn’t seem to have much impact on power. I have had stock, Mishimoto, Injen and now my own design. The open style intakes are a little warmer but they move air so much better than closed and they cool right down once you’re moving any volume of air. I let my truck idle with the hood down and then again with it up yesterday, interestingly the the temperature was similar in both tests.
Also good to note that the tune doesn’t really care about the intake temperature, it uses the intercooler temperature as the guide to timing control. I have an intercooler and it’s definitely working, my charge temps are rarely over ambient when moving air and are always lower than the IATat low flow/load.
