This does not work for me. Yes, you can lock the FOB in the truck as you describe but the minute I pull on the door handle the truck unlocks.

The door will not unlock if the keypad was used to lock the truck -- the keypad will be required to unlock the truck - pulling on the door handle does not release the locks in this case.
This is the way it's supposed to work.

Can't confirm as I have no keypad and would of removed it most rikki-tikki if I did.

I agree, Ford did not want the FOB inadvertently locked in the vehicle.
The Keypad method works, but don't leave the FOB in plain sight inside the locked vehicle or you may have a busted window when the cops recover your vehicle....;):)

Good to know... thanks. :like:

It depends on which model truck you have, and which options. We have an XL, with the FX4, which means we also have the 101A package. I just went out and confirmed what @Trigganometry stated and he is correct. As long as the truck is not running, if you hit the lock button on door when exiting it will lock the fob in the car.

If the truck is running and you hit the lock button, the horn blows twice and the truck automatically unlocks.
Well it must depend on the package as you say. My Lariat does exactly as I posted.....I cannot lock FOB in truck using the door locks - yes, the door lock indicator indicates that the doors are locked but it unlocks when I pull on the door handle.

As @cfhgarza already pointed out that is the Lariat model "Intelligent Access". Your Ranger is like ED-209 in RoboCop. It knows better than you, and, well, glitches happen, it's a temporary set-back.

I could be wrong. But IIRC when locked with the keypad the vehicle cannot be started without unlocking from the keypad.

That wouldn't stop them from breaking a window, yoinking your key amongst other things, and following you home to get the truck later though.

Keypad just seems like an invitation to thieves. "Hey look, I'm locking valuables in my car!"

OP, something isn't working right on your ride I think.

Humm, interesting, I had not heard that but I'll have to try it.

Search turned up nothing... Wondering if anyone knows how to lock the key fob inside? I have a keypad outside but as soon as I grab the handle it re unlocks itself. Can it be done?
Hit the last two buttons on the keypad at the same time after closing the door. It has worked this way since ford started having keypads. It won't lock otherwise so you don't accidentally lock your keys in the truck.

I tried that this morning.

First lowered the window, placed FOB in cupholder, locked door using keypad, then opened door by reaching thru window to unlock and open door, and the truck started without issue.

I also tried placing FOB on seat, locking doors with Keypad, reached thru open window to grab FOB and used it to unlock doors and start truck.

I stand corrected!

To me that takes the keypad from "nice I guess, but kind of worthless," to "completely worthless and total thief magnet."

I thought the idea of the outside keypad was to be able to lock the key inside the truck. Then you could go to the beach, boat, etc. without the risk of losing your FOB. I saw it done at the dealer when we bought the outside keypad. I've never used it. I got the keypad for use at the beach, or the mall. Maybe I should be sure it works!!! There's also a small pad on the door handle that acts to unlock and lock the truck.

Well the keypad has 100,000 combinations so IMO, it's not a thief magnet...(I've had keypads on my vehicles for years and have never had one stolen....knock on wood.....)

I mean in the sense that anybody seeing you get out of your car and punch the keypad pretty much knows you're locking your keys in there. Easy enough, especially after your research, to smash a window and take the car while you're out surfing or whatever.

Yeah, it'd be best not to be seen doing that -- most folks wouldn't connect the dots but thieves would tho!
