I opened the hood on the new '21 escape we got, and I expected it to lift by itself after I unlatched it, but it didn't have any struts; the 80's called, they want their hood prop rods back. ?They technically didn't take them off. They just didn't install them.
I can't remember the last time I had a car with struts to hold up the hood, maybe never. The last hood that held itself up was probably with springs. The Ranger not having a prop rod was an unexpected surprise.
