I'm just spitballing here to try and help; have you tried pushing the key as well as pulling the key while you twist it? You may need to put the tumbler in a vice or something so you can get some better leverage in your "wiggling action." Would be a shame to cut it...

If it’s like my motorcycle cap it needs to be installed in place before the key can come out. Or you need to figure out if you need to squeeze the lock together like suggested to pull the key out

The key just won't come out of the barrel.

Guess I'll take it to the "Ford Store" and see what the technician says.
You might have to remove your damper first…

Maybe tap/rap it on a hard surface to see if it resets, bottom side.

Now that would be a really bad day. Get a flat on the road, change everything out and get ready to roll again and the key is stuck in the plug!

Mine got stuck once and I had to keep working to get the innards wet with penetrator to get it loose.

I spray in graphite now to keep it working

first time i tried mine i had this happen. however, when reinstalled the correct way and locked back in normal position the key came out nice and easy no fuss. its just how they work i guess.

I'm pretty sure the key 'locks' into place when the cylinder turns so you have to turn the cylinder back to the 'locked' position for the key to come out. It allows you to pull on the key to remove the whole assembly from the bumper.
