He's not wrong. ULV is a very good fluid. My main goal has been to get contaminants out of the system in order to keep the valve body working properly. (and it won't stop hard part failures)

Still think 100-150k is bonkers though. I prefer this outlook on changes:

" I Recommend these Fluid Service Intervals: First 30k Miles- Fluid Service Only At 60k Miles- Fluid and Filter Service Then Fluid and Filter Service every 60k Miles thereafter "

I’m pondering what to do now that I have a new updated transmission ( updated CDF drum , outer shell- trash can and latest version of valve body). I do tow pretty heavy during the summer. Have the Fitzstick and did add the Lubeguard additive . Don’t put very many miles on it so it could easily be 4 to 5 years before have 30k on the new fluid. I guess I’ll be in monitoring mode for a while and see how things go.

My transmission started acting up at 5K miles, and got progressively worse over the next 15K. I replaced 7.5 qts of fluid with 7qts of fluid plus 10 oz LubeGard Platinum.

It was as if a switch was tuned on and 99% of the craziness disappeared. I still had a mild hard shift going into 4th. So I added another 8oz of LubeGard last week, and guess what? 4th gear shifts are now the same as all the others - nice and smooth!

Don't wait until things get out of control. At the first sign of trouble change the fluid and add LubeGard. I called the LubeGard help line and was told the upper limit was 2oz / quart of transmission fluid. In the Ranger's case that is 24 oz. I am now at 18 oz.... and happy,,, and relieved even moreso!

I've dug into 3 transmissions (I'm a retired teacher who works on my vehicles and vehicles of close family)with sticking valve bodies and fine screens on shift solenoids that were blocked by contaminates. I'd say that in all 3 transmissions, a fluid/filter change may have prevented the issues. I'll continue to do regular fluid/filter changes in my vehicles as preventive maintenance. I'll continue to avoid fluid flushes as I feel they will stir up contaminates to cause issues in valve bodies and plug fine screens.

I'm definitely of the opinion that a drain plug at the lowest point and a drain and fill every 30k might help get rid of any crap floating in the fluid that contributes to failure.

It's just an opinion, though.

i agree wholeheartedly with you. I am amazed at how short the lifespan of the ULV fluid is in my 10R80 Transmission.

Either the fluid is missing something important, or the 10R80 is simply very hard on the fluid.

I do know that I will be changing transmission fluid in my 2020 Ranger much more often than in any previous vehicle that I have ever owned.

I don't mistreat my vehicles, and 12K of the first 20K miles on my truck were highway miles on interstates, and US highways. Steady 55mph - 75mph trips. This is not considered harsh or severe driving conditions,
