As we all know CB is dying down in the Off-road and heading towards GMRS for good reasons. That said if CB was still going to be Popular enough I would consider this particular unit for it's compact size. Definitely a good looking unit, just wouldn't bother with the wireless function!!

Ohh this thread reminds me of a few memories back when I had a CB in my truck years ago. Didn't need one, just wanted it.

But those are for drunken campfire tales and may reveal things about me....

Anyway lol boomer nerd thread. I'll be monitoring this.

Yea those were the days. Had a great time with my CB until uncle charlie sent me a letter. Had a nice base station with a 1kw tube amp, lollie pop D104 and a Tram D201 all coupled to a moonraker 6. I can neither confirm or deny that one evening the song “grandma got run over by a reindeer” was played many, many times. Which could be the cause of the letter, or because all of my neighbors couldn't record on their VCR’s without hearing me on their recordings within a block radius, or that several garage door openers close by would also be triggered when I keyed up. RF energy does cool things!!
Yes it would be, could be me, world wide hall of fame Sir Monte, how about a radio check out there….
I miss those days!!

I still have a CB unit in my first "new" vehicle even though the antenna has long since been ripped off by a traffic incident. Only reason I didn't go through the process of being "legal" was the only time I used it "officially" was during a trip through Canada I helped an over the road trucker with his fuel calculation going back west over the King's highway. Most of the time I was talking to custom cutters or friends harvesting.

After I got back from service and joined my local SAR unit I did go through and tested for the technicians classification for HAM. I need to get off my butt and get my general.

I remember when everyone was putting them in cars and trucks, but didn't you have to have a radio license to use one?

I had a base station with an antenna on the second story of my parents house growing up. A few of my friends either had one in their parents car or a hand held radio shack model. Fun times, miss those days they were much simpler.

I remember my tube amp had 2 rotary knobs that you turned to make a transmit indicator lamp shine brightly when you had it dialed in.

I've had a CB in my vehicle for 30 years.
I can't tell ya'll how many times it's saved me from traffic jams, and radar traps.
I'd love to install it in my Ranger, but, after 3 years, I still can't figure out where I'd put it in that small console area. ?

That's the nice thing about the hideaway units. The main unit can be hidden and you can have the plug wherever you want for the mic.
