Got a funny update on the Garmin Overlander. Thanks to the lovely Cold Snap that just happened I went to go get some dinner last night in the Pathfinder. Well it was -11° and the GPS was in the Pathfinder all day. Well apparently it does not like cold weather as the screen went a little haywire unit it warmed up. If I was smart I would have taken a picture, but I was lazy and wanted food. Put simple it does not like Sub Zero Temps!
LCD's do not work well in cold temps. Discovered this years ago with digital cameras... also their lithium batteries.

Doesn't me matter what type of battery it is. None like the extreme cold or extreme heat

I have a Garmin Zumo XT which I primarily use on my motorcycle, but I also installed an extra charger/mount in the Ranger. Used a fuse tap on an existing unswitched circuit, map lights, I think. This way, I can have the unit and all of my saved routes available for riding or driving. I use REVER for planning and storing routes. I have access to saved routes on my laptop and phone, so I can upload them as .gpx files to the XT as needed. If I didn't already have the Zumo, I'd seriously consider an Overland. Rock solid unit, intuitive and the battery lasts for days.

If not mistaken isn't the zumo to have some similar stuff as the Overlander? Obviously it's a different unit but I think it has some stuff geared towards the off-road stuff as well but more for powersports

The Zumo XT and new Zumo XT2 are more street biased , but have 3D shading and contour lines capability, Bluetooth, and group ride features, and mate with Garmin InReach. they work well for routing on USFS B-grade, and minimum maintenance roads. There are a ton of other "civilization" apps pre installed Traffic, Weather, POI's, Garmin Explore, yada yada. But the Overlander is built more rugged and you can map routes off road well, overland.
