On advice from one of the savviest auto technicians I know I try to never let my tank get under the 1/4 mark. With the fuel pumps now located inside the fuel tank, the pumps use the gas to dissipate heat. Constantly running the tank down low can shorten the life of the pump. Jack says that these new fuel pumps are rather fragile in spite of their cost. After replacing 2 fuel pumps on my old 2002 Ranger in under 5 years I took his advice. I was certainly guilty as charged for riding around on empty. So far so good with this last pump and his advice.
That now makes sense... Guess I'll change my ways...

In regards to fuel tank size, my truck clearly specs a 80 liter tank. Not sure if this is due to being a diesel. But honestly would think Ford using same tank anyways. But this comes out to be 21.13 gallons. Who knows.

I would like to know how accurate the actual fuel gauge is. I do what many here have talked about. I continue adding fuel up the neck after the first click of the fuel handle when filling up.

The computer uses the default factory amount for a full tank and calculates the miles remaining from there. I do not believe the computer accounts for the additional gas. I've found a few times that when I got to less than 10 miles remaining on the computer, the needle on the gas gauge was not on the white Empty line, but instead a full needle's width above it. I want to trust the gauge in this instance and not the computer. So far, I haven't taken that risk yet to find out.

My first tank of dealer free gas is up...
Time to switch to premium gas from now on...
My warning came on...and have been driving awhile... can't remember if it warning said 50 miles or what...
My dash cluster is saying this...

5 Miles to Go...

My gas guage is just now in the red.

Anyone run their tank past warning... Do you have one more gallon or so left... I always new how much gas was left and how many miles I could go when the gas light turned on in my Heritage model F150's...
When we picked up our brand spanking shiny new 2019 Ranger SuperCab at the dealership the "Miles To E " display showed "0 " miles of fuel remaining, and the out of fuel chime was ringing.

We drove about 3 blocks and filled up the tank with 91 Octane Top Tier gasoline.

It took 18.524 gallons before it shut off the pump. Fuel capacity per page 319 of the owners manual is 18.8 gallons.

18.8 - 18.524 = 0.276 gallons remaining, which is about a quart... + or -.

Since in most case the computer overestimates the MPG by 1 or 2 miles, miles to empty will be off.

I dunno, but my vehicles get topped off before reaching the halfway mark. Usually every other month. Always 93 E0. Today is 300’s turn.

Ran mine to fumes. I put 19 gallons in the tank when I filled up. I have driven past empty / 0 miles about 5 times. Scary and probly bad for the fuel pump, if it is like many that get cooled by the gas it is sitting in in the tank.

Lucky. we cannot get 93 Octane in AZ, just the pissy CA 91 Octane gas. And 93 DOES make a BIG difference over 91. I filled up w/ 93 in TX several times. You can feel an extra noticeable push when the pedal is squashed.
