Going about 90 in my 2023 Ranger. Nothing special.

Suddenly drops to 4th gear and redlines until i slam on the brake and pull over.

Leaking trans fluid from the pan (I just replaced 3 months ago) and is steaming/smoking from the area.

wtf?

Retired, work is a four letter word.
Total Bummer for sure, so the Ranger transmission sure seems to have a lot of issues, makes me rethink my choice.

Let's wait till the OP posts more about the problem....he stated he replaced the pan a few months ago. With what, by who, why....maybe not the trannie's fault at all.....

I'd be quite afraid to go that fast in mine. It would be VERY special if I found it necessary to go that fast!

I hope nothing has been severely or permanently damaged. Good luck!

UPDATE!

I think I was just sending er’ too hard and fluid started leaking out of the blow hole. Taking to ford after my mudding trip to see if anything’s wrong.

I think that when they replaced the pan they overfilled it. That’s what one of my buddies said who’s a mechanic.

? Crisis averted… MAYBE? Knock on wood.

Maybe send a little less hard. These rangers aren't exactly built "Ford tough" no matter what anyone does to em. Or at least get one of them aluminum pans and or better skidplates. Good luck.

The 10R80 is extremely sensitive from being overfilled.

I had a similar problem coming back from FL with the trailer in tow. I hadn't been monitoring my temps and the trans started flaring between 8 and 9. Pulled up torque and the temp had spiked to almost 250 deg. Slowed down, cooled down and everything went back to normal. Stopped for gas and I'd blown fluid all over the place.

This was pre-fitzstick, so I couldn't check it. When I got home, I checked it and the fluid was still where it should have been, meaning it was overfilled and blew out some of it when it got hot.

It was probably a situation where the fluid was really warm anyways (summertime, towing 6000lbs and running 75 mph) so it started to make contact with spinning internal parts and started foaming, blowing it out the vent.

Ever since, it has been fine.

" We have found that as little as 1 qt. (1 L) overfilled will cause both overheating and venting on them. "

I wouldn't call this resolved at all, the same exact things happened to my ranger with the stock pan. The truck is currently at the dealer waiting on either rebuild parts or a new transmission.

I was towed originally to the nearest dealer who reprogrammed the TCM then drove it a few months after. I'd schedule an appointment to get in ASAP, it'll be a long process if something is actually broken.

Good luck.

I think we found the issue. Maybe its not the truck, but the driver. Its not a sports car its a truck. Wring them out all day and they fall apart. I know from experience. This is why I will never buy used again.....
