CONFIRMED - I plugged it in and Truck thinks it has a trailer.
Shipping it back. That's a deal breaker right there.

Does yours think the truck is towing a trailer all the time?

Yes but it disabled the auto stop/start so I don't mind.
I am a lowly STX owner without the lane-seeking radar and other electronic sh*t.
Mine was also purchased unsolicited by my wife for my birthday last year and so far it's still working. She got me two for my old Sport Trac and neither lasted a year in PA weather.
Frankly I would have preferred the Raptor grille lights from Stage 3. Perhaps arrange for that and explain to the wife that while you greatly appreciate her thoughtfulness on getting you truck parts, the rear light bar gave you electronic issues but the front light bar won't since it plugs into a side marker light. I've been married twice, I know women.
BTW, 4 pin plugs never had a reverse wire since it is meant for light-duty trailers. The 7 pin plug with the tow package does have a backup light wire.

Does yours think the truck is towing a trailer all the time?

No. I have the base xl truck, I had to add the seven way and the brake controller wiring.
I’m not sure my truck has the capacity to know when it’s towing. The brake controller does though.
