Sounds like you have driven the Ranger already, what about the V6 F150? An extended cab F150 will have very little backseat room compared to a SuperCrew, so if you ever put people in the back the Ranger is better.

I've driven both. The F150 extended cab has plenty of space for our needs. We're empty nesters, so no kids to haul and rarely any other passengers. We found the Ranger extended cab to be too small in the back. We would want to stow a couple of large suitcases back there when we take a road trip and it would be tight. Therefore, the Ranger crew cab vs the F150 extended...

Another 3 time F150 owner that has been without a truck for the last 7 years thinking I no longer hauled stuff. You'd be surprised what I could carry in a Forester. :) As soon as I heard Ford was bringing back the Ranger I knew another truck was in my future and never considered the F150. Couldn't be happier.

I can reach over and get things out of my glove box...can't do that in a F150...:)

Although you can fit a good size safe in F150's console:wink:

This makes the inside storage even bigger:.

Lockable, programmed with the key fob and limo tint (on the cap only).

Does anyone know how much of a difference there is in back seat leg room between the Ranger super crew and the F-150 extended cab?

33.5 in. of leg room in F150 Extended Cab and 34.5 in. in the SuperCrew Ranger.

No kidding, I see a lot of older 150s on the road, and they look to be about the same size as my "mid-sized" Ranger!
The “mid size” is more than enough to pack the kids, dogs and gear in for a weekend hiking trip. You also have to love the 23 mpg on the highway, it’s now our preferred family vehicle over the Explorer Platinum.

I overheard some advice once which went something like this...
"Why diet? If ya wanna look thin , just hang out with fat people!"

Go park next to a fullsized truck, but stay away from an older Ranger!

Unless you need the extra towing capability or have 5 large passengers often I’d go with the Ranger for sure.

Well, we went to another dealer and looked at a Lariat with 500a, tech package and tow package. they want $34,500 and offered $1500 more on my trade than the first dealer. That trade value gap might actually be larger, because they initially offered $7000, and when we balked at that, they reluctantly upped it to $8000. they did not even look at the car, so I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to get that back down to $7000 if we went back.

This whole classic "let me talk to the manager" song and dance was rather disappointing. We've purchased four cars from this company's dealerships over the past 15 years, but I guess that counts for nothing.

The dealer last night inspected the car and came back with $9500, much more in line with what KBB and NADA show.

This is getting closer. Now I've got leather, adaptive cruise control, LED lights, etc. at a better price. I have to assume that the resale value of a Lariat is greater than the XLT also. Am I wrong about that?

You would not believe it if I told you

The way I always looked at the resale equation is the 'value' of a Lariat vs. an XLT (or even nan XL) will never be as good as the price difference when you buy it, a Lariat will definitely be more appealing and will likely sell quicker than the others.

I am still looking for a truck and have not decided on which to buy but I am leaning to the Ranger right now.

When I test drove the ranger the sales person when we got inside said you know I can get you into a 150 for less than a Ranger with more options because of the rebates. For a second we thought about it till my wife goes how would you fit this in our driveway. Then she goes I would never drive this thing.
The way the seats went down in the F150 would be great for a dog, one thing we liked about the Taco too was the way the backseats went down.
I do not get why Ford didn't do something better with the back seat of the Ranger. No fold down and no 60/40 split. It is one of my biggest pet peeves of the Ranger since we have a dog.. Would be nice to fold part down so our grankids could still sit on half and the dog would have a platform on the other part..

There is no way I could drive a truck that big because the truck is my everyday vehicle and parking a 150 would not be fun. I have to admit though It is still not totally off the table.

Yea the Ranger is the size the 150 was not to long ago. I drive a Colorado right now and see silverados on the road my truck is the same size or bigger than.

This whole leap frogging trying to outdo each other in cargo space created the midsized market. When does it stop?
