My son has a 1911 Colt 45acp he got from his grandpa before he passed away. Documented came off the USS Yorktown at the battle of Coral Sea. The Yorktown was listing and the Capt ordered abandon ship. This young man was sent back to get the code books. While on the bridge he grabbed a pair of binoculars and this 1911 and brought 'em home. Not an A1 and no rebuild markings. Its all original 1911. Grandpa knew this gentleman had it and had been after it for 30 years or more. He finally got it from him. My son likes it and it shoots really well!

Well, CMP overdramatizes the bad parts of the condition. They are always in better shape than the description says.

You can look at the CMP forums at the pics folks post of the ones they receive.

I think they range from about 900-1200. Those same guns sell for 3k or more on auction sites.

When I get mine, I'll post it, but it's going to be a few more months.

I've never been able to comfortably hold a Glock. My hands are small and like you said it's like holding a brick to me.
That is why the only Glock that I own is a single stack G48.
But it will never replace my 1911's.

Yeah the description of the grades really turns me off.
Rack Grade $1050. Pistol will exhibit rust, pitting, and wear on exterior surfaces and friction surfaces. Grips may be incomplete and exhibit cracks. Pistol requires minor work to return to issuable condition but is functional. Pistols may contain commercial parts.

Range Grade $1100. These are 1911 pistols for those that want a part of history and a shooter, not a collectable. These are 1911s that have been modified in some way, and may have some commercial parts. No two (2) pistols are alike, the modifications / parts could be any of the following: Night Sights, extended Beaver Tail, Rubber Grips, Barrels, Oversized Slide Release, Target Triggers, Adjustable Rear Sights, Tactical Match Hammer, Competition Grip Safety, Sight Rib, Slides, Checkered Front Strap, Ambidextrous Safety, Different Finishes. Some of the manufactures of these parts are: Bar-Sto, Wilson, Ed Brown, Pachmayer, Hogue, Caspian and Bomar.
I'm not spending $1000 on something that might not even be usable.

If you want GI spec then Auto Ordinance is a cheaper option. Gunbroker shows a dealer selling them new for $699.

Took the 1911 Loaded to the range along with the Mini Mamba and the Keltec P17 and the suppressors! Picked up a couple 45acp brass, 5-223 brass and 51 9mm brass. All are reloaded and in the ammo cans!

Range time was fun/not fun. It's a public WMA range with strict rules. One of those rules is you can only fire your gun at a rate of one round every two seconds. It was not the place to fully realize the capabilities of my new pistol, nor can you keep your skills sharpened. But oh well; their range, their rules. But, I did get to shoot a ton of rounds through my Prodigy and I love this gun.

Today, I broke down the Prodigy and cleaned it. Then, I dismounted the the Hex Dragonfly optic and mounted a Holosun 507C X2. Mounting went well with the Springfield mounting plate I purchased. I also rough-zeroed it at 15 yards using a laser trainer.

Thats rough. My local range is sporting clays center with a rifle/pistol range. They've always had rules, but working nights and visiting mornings during the week I'd often be alone and the RSOs would relax a bit knowing I wasn't gonna tear their stuff up. Recently they were bought out by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and let's just say the RSOs are very uptight and never relax the rules.

Recently my buddies and I have been hitting a National Park with a designated shooting area. No RSOs, just a Ranger or two that stop by every now and then. Pros and cons.

It's nice to be left to your own, but it's difficult to keep an eye on everybody. I don't bring my youngsters here as I really don't trust the public much.

It's nice to practice draws, and get some rapid fire in. But it's a little sketchy depending on your company.

Was the mission to kill the hostage? ???
You don't understand. That's not a hostage, it's a bad guy. That's not a hostage taker, that's a co-worker holding the bad guy for him to shoot. Solid drill! You don't want to hit your co-worker. ?
