Also, if you were in a wreck with that load on there you could be found negligent (insurance denies claim and you are 100% responsible for all cost to fix all vehicles involved and any medical coverage, would likely be a bad day in court too).

So, I was wrong. I called my insurance. They told me "They will cover stupidity", their words on this type of scenario. But, they went on to inform me that when the underwriter processes the claim, they could refuse to continue providing you insurance coverage.

I'm really surprised by that. When I was young and learning to drive, I was taught to read the manuals, understand the limits and operate the vehicle within those limits. I was informed back then that insurance is for accidents, but if you contributed to the accident by driving the vehicle outside its limits insurance can deny your claim. Maybe over the decades things changed to support the dumbing of the nation or I was originally misinformed.
