Chuck Dudly likes to draw Saleen race cars and did this update. I think this is really cool!

Hi Rob,

I am so besides myself on this. Would love to do this, but right now with all going on in the medical side of the equation of life, on the back burner...I am just blown over what is going on 30 years after we did this program...you just never know where things are headed when you do something and have it come back after all those years... It has been an amazing ride so far! :)

Hi Eric,

Yep. I built 4 of these racetrucks at Livernois Engineering. Gave three to the Saleen team and kept one back for development work on making the trucks go faster. Ford won the manufacturers championship the last year of the series. The suspension and rollcage of each truck was my design. Trucks were quite fast for being 4 cylinder motors. I still hold the handling track lap record for light trucks at the now defunct handling track at the Dearborn proving grounds.

That's incredible Phil.
Thank you for sharing.

From a young Ranger Fan, I really appreciate all the generations that came before. This is just awesome.

I think Phil needs to be nicknamed the Ranger Whisperer... Crazy good wisdom!

Phil, did/do you race SCCA or mostly work on the development side?

Hi Scott,

I raced SCCA for 12 years. I had a Formula SuperVee back in the old air cooled Supervee days. Top speed was about 160mph..
I then became Chief of Flagging and Communications and ran race control at the Detroit Grand Prix for many years while downtown and also at Belle Isle. Indy Car came to me and I became a Track Side official for their series. All the while I had a regular job at Ford Light Truck Engineering and I also Managed the Saleen SCCA racetrucks and our Off Road Racing effort

Part of the SCCA Saleen Effort was to keep developing the trucks so I spent several nights each week on the handling track trying new things to make the trucks faster and when we found things that worked, we fabricated enough parts to support the Saleen Trucks. In Off Road, I basically managed the series for Ford which was more political in nature. Spent many weekends in Baja Mexico for example... It was a busy time for me as I still had the day job to do as well.

Hi Folks,

I do not know about a book...how about I post a 5 page article that I wrote for the Saleen Club of America, that chronicles the start of the SCCA Race Truck Challenge, a series I inadvertently started. Would that be a start? I believe there is a Forum for Non 5G stuff and might be able to post it there if the moderators think it is appropriate.

Okay...here is the link to the article 8 pages the way I had to break it down due to file size...last page needs help and I will try to fix that later..
