Long time Tacoma driver (2 first gens and 4 2nd gens). Passed the last one, 2015 with 103K miles, on to my son. Looked at the 3rd gen and was not impressed. Drove the Ranger and liked alot of the things about it. It was time for a change, picked up my Lariat Screw 7 days ago.

Welcome to the dark side. :bandit: I think you'll really like the Ranger compared to the 3rd gen Tacoma. I traded in my 2016 Tacoma and don't regret it one bit. Actually was the happiest day in a long time!:D

Wow! What did they give you for it on trade-in? That price is way high for a 2012 Taco.

I agree but I bet it's gone in a couple weeks. The gen 3's are garbage so the Taco fan boys will scoop up up good used gen 2 in a heart beat.

I have the window sticker from my 2011 Tacoma Double Cab 4x, v6, auto, TRD Offroad, and the tow package. The sticker price was $32,069, which means the original owner of my truck probably paid @ $30,500+TTL for it. Yes, @ $4k more than the asking price if this one year newer Tacoma that is now 7 years old. Mine is currently not for sale, but if somebody wants to offer me $24-$25k, I may have to reconsider.

Count me in 2003 Tacoma access cab 2.7 prerunner 4x2. 2005 tundra 4.7 access 2007 tundra 5.7. All were great trucks. But the new ranger meets my needs and I do not like the current tacomas.

I will say when I traded in my 2007 tundra I was 3k to the postive on my equity even with 20k over miles which has never happened to me on a lease.

lol I think that people who actually had to live with that tranny really fall in love with the ranger a whole lot fast lol(ford should have a new Tacoma on the lot to help sell the ranger with back to back test rides )

That would be a GREAT marketing idea! I really wanted to like the Tacoma but when I test drove it, it was just a very odd experience. There are some nice features on it, but the powertrain definitely isn't one of them.

Contrast that with my Ranger, and I absolutely LOVE the powertrain - and many other things. But something as fundamental as the powertrain needs to be good, otherwise all the other "features" can't offset it, IMO.

That was the deal breaker for me! I was really nervous about buying another first year model like I did with my 2016 Tacoma. But after 2 test drives and seeing how smooth the drivetrain is on the Ranger and then getting back into my Tacoma I knew I couldn't wait another year. Seeing as they didn't make any major changes for the 2020's, I know I made the right decision.

I actually ordered mine without having test driven one. For me, the positive reviews and the fact that it wasn't really "new" (even the engine and transmission are not new) made it an easier decision. I did finally get to test drive one about a month after I ordered and I knew I had made the right choice. In almost 7 months of ownership and about 7500 miles, the only issue I've had was a slightly leaky mirror turn signal light.

I had to test drive one because I made that mistake once before. The 2016 Tacoma I had I ordered in Sept of 2015 so there were non to test drive. I "thought" based on previous Tacomas the gen 3 would be just as good if not better, boy was I wrong. :)

I knew the Ford engine/tranny were around for a while but I still had to see for myself after already making that mistake once before. Also I was lurking on this site for well over a month before joining reading up on all the older posts. This really helped in my decision and I like the way this forum is run, everyone here is very helpful

I can see why you'd want/need to test drive before you bought after being bitten once. "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me". :)

My son thought I was crazy for ordering before I was able to drive one - I wasn't too concerned, however I figured if worse came to worse and I didn't like it once it got here I'd only be out my $500 deposit.

I'm not sure I'd order the 6G Ranger without being able to test drive it however. That beast will be all new when it comes out in a couple of years. I'm just glad I got what I got. I doubt I will be buying a 6G Ranger anytime soon - I plan on keeping this one for a while - my last one I had for 14 years and the only reason I sold it was that my knees have a hard time with clutches when driving in stop and go traffic. Since this was my daily driver I needed to get an automatic. They would have to offer something REALLY amazing for me to trade. Now if they did a hybrid version that got 30+ MPG (4x4) that might be compelling.....
