My truck is setup with my FordPass on my iPhone. The vehicle will not start with the app. I can unlock and lock the doors so I know it is set up correctly, but when you hold the start button it says vehicle failed to start. I read anecdotal evidence that this is some kind of software issue in the truck? I have deleted the app, reset the truck to stock and reset it all back up and same results. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Just asking - Vehicle is locked, in park, with handbrake on? Location on phone turned on? And for initial setup eg at home - vehicle has access to same (wifi) network as the phone?

Do you have enough fuel in the tank? Won't remote start if that's the case. Are you able to remote start with your key fob?

Ford pass operates on cellular network...

Try locking the truck first, even if it is already locked.

Ford pass operates on cellular network.

As I understand Fordpass, sync and the entire system - also works over wifi - back and forth over the internets to Ford using some amazon services.

Connect phone and car to same wifi network (eg home wifi), enable location on phone, configure it as per Ford's instructions and test. Elimanting the cellular network.

Only failures starting when I play around stop/start a couple of times (and as per book have to trundle out and start it with the key) and after phone updates, needing to nuke app settings and relogin. Also fails to start when I lock/unlock a bunch of times with the app - need to go back out and press the button..

The only things in your list that are needed are locked and in park.

I start my truck from FordPass multiple times a week.

Parking brake doesn't matter, I never use it. Phone location on doesn't matter either, just started/extended time/shutoff with location services off on my phone. Same wifi at initial setup, not needed. I set my truck up at the dealership without wifi for either.

AT&T would be the "cellular network" that the system is using. Where does Amazon get involved??????

Fuel in tank. Doors locked manually and via app. No luck. My 2019 I would start from halfway around the world, literally. This 2020 has never started. My key fob doesn’t have start feature. Neither did my 2019.

The phone and the truck don't have to be on the same network. When you press any function on the app, a coded signal is sent via whoever the wifi or cellular data network provider is you're using to Ford Connect HQ in the Detroit area. The signal is verified and a signal is sent back via AT&T to the vehicle to execute the function. The smartphone and the vehicle don't communicate directly with each other other than Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay or Android

Awesome. Thank you so much. I can cancel my dealer appointment now. Problem solved.

I just tested this.
check that your vehicle\settings\remote start\system is checked.
I unchecked it and was able to lock\unlock but got the fail to start error
I checked it and was able to remote start
