Ford Sync Changed - Update?

Thanks but I have never kept the SiriusXM after the trial offer except one time. It was quite an ordeal to get it canceled. I never was one for radios because I like to hear the sound of the vehicle in case somethings going wrong

I just got the update & received the gray screen of death!
Turned off/on the truck & all good.
I suspended XM on another car & they forgot about me, free XM for 5 yrs now.

Hey all! I was driving into work this morning when my ford sync and touchscreen completely shut off. It rebooted while I was driving and a "system updated" icon appeared in the top right. When everything booted back up, the display was entirely different as far as colors and font etc; I absolutely hate it.

Did Ford release an update that changed layout? Is there a way I can revert back or change my layout? I messed around in the settings and couldn't find anything. I miss my old layout/appearance!

Well, at least you can change the background. I did a search for “Ford sync 3 hacks“ and I found this guy that does these mods. This one for changing the background seems pretty easy. He’s got more videos also. One of them shows you how to hack/jailbreak it so you can watch videos on it. It would be great for a front seat passenger but I wouldn’t want to do it as a driver and I won’t do it as a driver. It would probably be 1000 times worse than texting and driving. I suppose there are more hacks out there for it, or jailbreaking as they call it.
if you try this let us know how it goes. I think I’m gonna give it a go trying to change the background and if so I’ll post also. Undecided at this moment Because if I don’t get this fuel in the oil problem fixed I may be gone after the lemon law on my truck.

What ever happened to the Ford myColor LEDs? Wife had a 2005 (IIRC) Mustang Convertible that came with this feature, you could change the color of your LED lights that lit up the foot-wells, cup holders glove box interior, dash gauge cluster etc. They were all preset colors but there was like 32 of them or something crazy like that.

Reason I ask is that 5 years ago I had a Honewell Thermostat for the home and the aesthetic pretty much looks like the same guy / gal that designed the thermostat did the Synch update this last time. But the Honeywell thermostat had an almost infinite color change for the background and text. I was able to get it really close to matching my wall color on the LCD display. Seems like if Ford once had myColor technology 15 years ago they could do the same here so that your Synch screen could match the pain on your car or the interior or your favorite color - even if they only give you 32 colors to pick from.

As close as they give us is the ambient light color mixer for the front foot wells, cup holders, cubbie, and doors. I have mine set to match my paint.

Lit handles and footwells are only an option on the Lariat's that I've seen. My XLT with the 302A tech package doesn't have them (or heated mirrors )

@OP - You were running a very old version of Sync3 apparently. The visual upgrade came as a part of a Sync3.4 update in summer of 2020. You can manually upgrade via USB stick or you can auto upgrade when you connect your truck to Wifi, as it seems has happened.

Personally, I think the new UI is a big step forward compared to Sync3.3. It's funny you think it looks antiquated because I thought that Sync3.3 looked antiquated and the update brought it into the modern age. It's almost as if opinions are subjective

I'm using "Lincoln Timeless" right now. Didn't find much difference between any of the Lincoln ones. Just stay away from the 10 inch ones and any that are portrait. They each give you 3 or 4 back grounds some actually have patterns in them. Its been a while since I changed mine so they may have added some choices with the latest update. You just have to play.

When I had a Lincoln screen up I couldn't connect with Ford Pass to use my remote start. Do you have the same issue?

No i don’t have that issue. Just don’t have the Fordpass button on my SYNC screen. I think it changes to something like Lincoln Experience. Fordpass remote start and lock/unlock works fine.

My sync hasn't changed since I bought the truck new in April 2019. I use the USB for music most of the time.
