I can see possibly getting a PHEV if they could get the towing capacity up to at least 5,000 pounds on the Ranger. I normally only tow around 2,000 pounds with the weight of trailer and UTV but am a firm believer of having at least double the towing capacity.
We can use the Maverick as an example when comparing towing capacity when it comes to PHEV and ICE models. The Maverick hybrid only has a towing capacity of 2,000 pounds while the Eco Boost model has a towing capacity of 4,000 pounds with the factory tow package.
I stil do not want an all electric vehicle. I live in the country and the nearest cities with hospitals is 50 to 60 miles away. And the nearest towns with better chopping are at least 20 to 30 miles away.. I love in Missouri. And distances are greater in western states.
And for all the comments about battery costs. I looked up the cost of Chevy Volt replacement batteries and they ranged from $16,000 to $20,000 just for the battery, labor was extra. Kelley Blue Book gives a private party value between $7,500 and $10,000 for a 2015 Chevy Volt. A replacement battery costs double what the car is worth.
