I had some stupid EV hugger tell me they could do 800 miles in a day with their Tesla, I laughed and then showed them the articles of a guy who used to drive from Cheyenne to Casper in about 2hrs in an ICE and now does it in in just under 14hrs because his Leaf can only go 80 miles before needing a recharge when it's range is 130 miles, along with the Ford Employee who with an F150 lighting admitted driving highway speeds drops range by 30% so he has to drive round trip 40 miles out of his way to charge when his Ecoboost F150 gets 600 miles on a tank. Of course the EV hugger had "excuses" to the articles I posted which were the fact they were not driving a Tesla. I told him keep trying and laughed.
He only drove 800 miles in 24 hrs. It took too much time to charge. We drive 800 miles in 12 or less adding in meals bathrooms and fuel ups

I can drive from Des Moines IA to Rock Springs WY in about 12hrs that includes fuel stops, restroom and food often just combining. That about 880 plus miles. I doubt the idiot could do 800 miles in 24hrs. I did the math it would take almost 5 days in an EV to make the trip from Des Moines to Los Angeles because the need to charge and how long it takes.

I just stay there for the night, never said I wanted to live there. I would rather live in Evanston. Better view of the Mountains.

All I’ve done is keep going
I'm happily married and plan to stay that way so when my wife starts to complain of being in the vehicle after so long, even I know it's smart to say we're done driving for the day so when we go West we stay there for the night. Just like she learned why I hated taking 3 days to Florida and back, I love to drive but when it's a two day drive and you stretch it to 3, everybody gets restless.

It has been quite a while since I took a long trip. The last long trip was when I got out of the Army, I drove from Ft Irwin, Ca to St Peters, Mo (jut outside of St Louis). I left in the late afternoon on the first day and stopped in Kingman, AZ, about 233 miles. The second day I drove from Kingman, Az to Amarillo, Tx, (758 miles). On the third day I went from Amarillo Tx to St Peters (752 miles).

Travel time for days 2 and 3 were about 12-13 hours which included stops for food, gas and bathroom breaks. My son had just turned 3 years old and was still potty training when we made that trip.

There is no way I would want to try and make a trip like that in an EV vehicle with all of the stops and waiting time to recharge, especially with a 3 year old.

EV's might be fine for people that live in big cities but only after the power grid is built to handle charging all those vehicles. I don't see EV's being a viable option for those of us that live an hour or more away from any major city. I will stick with my ICE vehicles since the closest major cities are an hour away from me.

With most people only having a week for vacation, this is going to limit where you can go. Instead of one day driving to your vacation, spending three or four days, then another day of driving home, now you will have four days of driving and only a day or maybe two.

Worse to tell, wife and I were driving home from a long road trip and drove i-80 thru Utah, wife kept urging me to stop for the night as we had passed some decent lodging, then into Wyoming and finally I said we'll stop in Rock Springs for the night - well unbelievably every lodging was full due to some annual golf tournament - had I known they had a course there I would have brought my clubs and carried the field.

Not interested until they can get a full charge in the time it takes me to fill a gas tank. Every long trip becomes 50% longer because of all the extended charging stops.
Hell, I'll even be glad to get a 100% charge in the time it takes to wait in Costco gas line AND fill up

There are central planner types in government, especially now, who see everyone moving to the city, selling their cars, renting and using mass transit as the ultimate goal. Forcing EVs on everyone, limiting range of movement, etc is what gets them excited.

Exactly. Communes prisons. While the elites have free roam and enjoy our tax money / labor.
