I currently have the FP tune and it's good. I would really like to be able to run 85 (I live at elevation, so 85 is 87). I'd like to get the driveability of a tune, but at low grade for the cost savings.

Has anyone run both tunes? I don't want to be the $600 guinea pig. I can't stand the Ranger on the stock tune now. Just thinking about changing out the tune for the Livernois but I don't want to waste the money.

I have not used the FP tune but use the Livernois 87-89 performance tune as my daily choice. Really woke the truck up. Eastern Idaho has 85. You might ask Livernois if the tune can run 85.

the cost of 87 isn't worth changing it out. I will reach out to them and ask. 87 is just 80% 85 and 20% 91. Its the biggest scam in fuel.

Sounds like over here, we have 91, 91 E10, 95, and 98 RON fuel. Compared to 91, 98 is horrendously expensive, and 95 is comparatively expensive also. Most vehicles will run quite happily on 91, many import vehicles recommend / specify 95, however most people don't realise the "green" 91 E10 which is cheaper than 91, is actually ~ 94 RON because of the 10% ethanol, and in many cases is interchangeable with 95. The fuel companies don't advertise that fact either.

My Ranger user manual says nothing less than 87 and doesn't show any exceptions.

FWIW, the first 10k miles owning the Ranger I ran the FP tune. For the past 30k miles I have been running the Unleashed 87 performance tune with custom tranny tuning. The FP tune definitely had more top end but in the rpm range where I do 90% of my driving, <4000 rpm, the difference is not noticeable. The tranny tuning made such an improvement I would never consider going back.
