A friend had a 2.3L Bronco and traded for a Raptor. He had the tune done and offered to give me the physical unit. I know there is a software download involved and I believe the tunes are serial number specific, but honestly just not sure.

Will this tuner work and is there any cost benefit over buying the full package? I have a 21 Tremor.

It's locked to the vehicle it was originally sold to. I'm not sure if the dealership can change that for you. You might want to ask them.

Ford Performance are the only ones that can "unlock" it from the VIN. I purchased a unit a few years back that a tech had tried to install on a non-compatible year Ranger, the company I bought from worked with FP to get the errant VIN removed. I doubt they will do it in this instance.

They will not! Only way they will unlock it is if vehicle gets totaled and original owner files proper paperwork to get it transferred to new vehicle in same owners name. That's what had been posted before.

You should still be able to use the Ford performance tuning module to change the tire size, read codes, and view diagnostic data. If it’s worth it to you for that.

I believe more than 1 license can be used on a single unit. But you have to buy an additional license.

Its one and done. I've got an expensive paper weight, for that reason.

Ford Performance won't. I called and asked if I could pay a fee to unlock, they won't unlock it.

I've heard of this working one time. Its a game where they get you for a lot of money and prevent you from recouping that money if you decide to go back to stock.

I've not heard this. According to Ford Performance, who I called and spoke with, these are one vehicle only.

I called FP when I removed my tune to try and sell it. I was told that its a paper weight now and there was nothing the would do.

Thanks! I thought I remembered that one of the menu screens had a selection for different VINs.
BTW, is everyone aware you can buy this for $200 less than Ford?

I do not believe the dealer can change that... the license for the tune is VIN specific. If you buy another license, the handheld device can be updated to add that new license and remove the Bronco license... but you get nothing for free.

Just got off with Ford Performance. They are VIN locked and not transferable to different vehicle.

As others have mentioned it is vinlocked. This is pretty common for any tuner. That said there are other tuners like livernois that will gladly unlock it for a fee so you can tune another vehicle. How much that fee will be will depend on the tuner

I bought mine through Stage 3 and it was significantly less than Ford.
