Thinking of an engine swap Bill? ;)

I really like the utility these offer and that V6 sounds like it should be fun. These types of vans also look pretty cool when they’re modded up for full Overlanding, but I just can’t get over two small things…
  1. Those mismatched top window lines
  2. The Hino-esque wheel well/door combo (they all seem to have it) and how it requires that odd beveled split in the fender flare
Still, it would be an awesome camper/van conversion!

Now that you mention the window, I can't unsee that.

Damn you.

What’s the biggest tire you can fit on it without a lift? ?
Via Van Compass, who do a lot of aftermarket lifts and suspension upgrades. I'm not sure you can go any bigger without a lift on a standard Transit. The Trail already includes a lift, wider track, and larger tires than a standard Transit.

I've looked into it quite a bit since this is what we'll be doing with our Transit in the spring.

I was being facetious but should have known that this was already a thing ?

You know I kind of like those but I am assuming way too much money for one!!!
They are nice as a conversion van setup. We saw several of them at the last big RV show a few weeks ago and yes, they're pricey.

This thing is such an eye roll. The only feature not already present in the Transit's options list is the ventilation fan.

It's also just super disappointing that neither the Transit nor Sprinter offers true 4WD, real low range gears, or even a single locking diff. They're both incredibly limited on articulation, so losing traction by lifting wheels is an everyday experience, even on mild dirt roads.

its kinda cool but id prefer the older e350 made into a 4x4. i dont think any oem makes a 4x4 van any more. shame.

Most options, yeah. But the factory lift, wider track, and larger tires are also not options otherwise offered for normal Transits. Though they are all things the aftermarket has taken care of for a while now, same with the vent fan. Everything else offered are already available options, just complied into a single package though.
The only thing on the Trail worth it for our rig might be that grille with the integrated marker lights. And hopefully I can grab one from the parts bin once they come out.

As far as no true 4WD offering. We don't plan on going that crazy with ours anyways. And most of the time you're probably going to be limited by the ground clearance and angles. Especially with an EL wheelbase one w/ the ~4ft rear overhang like ours will be. So a slight lift, larger and more aggressive tires, Fords amazing AWD system, and the rear limited slip axle will do just fine.
It's also why we plan on keeping the Ranger around to be the deeper exploration rig and support vehicle.

People who NEED shit like that aren't buying something with as high of a CG as these behemoths. That being said, these big 4x4 vans seem to have a sizable market. It's cool ford's getting into the game.
