To all my online friends in Ranger 5g, if you are living in California please be safe and take care of yourselves. As someone who lives on the driest inhabited continent, where bush-fires are a regular fact of life, and as someone who has had to make preparations for bush fires myself and having direct friends who have lost all, I know only too well the cost.

Please look after yourselves and stay safe. Family and pets are everything, buildings can be replaced, people cannot.

My prayers go with you.

I hope we have as in past years, sending some of our volunteer firefighters over there, to help, they know how to put stuff out!

Stay safe!

Yes, please be safe folks. While living in British Columbia, the RCMP came pounding at my door to order an immediate evacuation because of a wildfire.

Get out now!
Where are we going?
Let me grab some things.
No! You don’t have time for that!
Get out now!

It can happen in an instant - please have a plan for your kids, pets, and medications.

As @Canadian Ranger mentioned, Canada has sent water bombers and crews from Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia to help. I imagine other countries are also sending equipment and personnel. A friend of mine was a Rapattack and Parattack firefighter - rappelled from helicopters and parachuted from planes to fight wildfires. These are some of the heroes that are on the way to help local crews and those deployed from other countries.

Well-trained, tough as nails and brave as hell. Let’s hope they all remain safe as they risk everything to protect the people and property in the impacted areas.

Here's hoping and praying for anyone in CA affected by these fires. I don't watch the news and just saw late yesterday what it looked like there and it's devastating! The winds out there are no joke and can pick up and shift in an instant.

No matter where you live it's always good to have a B-O-B (Bug Out Bag) ready to go. I always have mine filed with a couple days worth of clothing, some medical supplies, money, toiletries and a few protein bars which I rotate. It doesn't have to be large but something just to get you by until help can arrive. This is also another good reason to NOT leave your vehicles low on gas. As Duke said things can and will happen fast and there will be no time (and possibly) nothing open in an emergency.

Sad to think they were preventable, or at least minimized with proper planning and leadership.

I've been in a mandatory evacuation once (423 houses lost)and a voluntary evacuation another time. Not fun. We always kept a to go box during fire season.

Very sad what has happened.

I think Idaho has sent 100 firefighters and 50 engines.900 more firefighters heading to CA soon.

Believe me, us Californians are grateful for all your help- we certainly don't get it from our politicians. I'm a couple hours north of there but I know the area fairly well and it's devastating to see. I don't think we know the scope of the damage yet, in the billions I'm sure. Maybe this will wake people up and they will start electing competant leaders.

Oregon at least my Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue has sent 300 fire fighters and equipment to LA. WOW it looks worse than the Hiroshima or Nagasaki A Bombs. Really sad and scary. Lots of prayers for all the people down there.?

Dan, glad you are out of harms way. I have a brother up in Cambria who is also out of the way for now.

Thanks mate. I'm in the mountains east of San Diego. Everyone is on edge at the moment. Winds were hitting 80+mph last night. Utility has shut off power. Its bone dry here. One spark and we'll be looking like LA. I keep my 3 acres well maintained with little ground vegetation. With these winds I don't think it would help though as the embers travel far.

estimates now raised as high as $150 billion I was reading about the impact on property insurance - the fires will impact rates for the entire state and make insurance prohibitively expensive in the high risk areas - if one can even get a non state sponsored policy.
Probably prompt another exodus from the Golden State .

Stay safe, hopefully somebody won't mow the field and hit a rock.

Here's a couple safe (non scam) donation sites where you can help out if you'd like. I've always trusted (and donated) to the Red Cross and the other is the California Fire Foundation and either will be a great help to those in need.
