Joe,

Maybe it is time in your life to take responsibility for your own actions...I fail to see how this is Ford's fault.

Phil,

Probably as Ford provided the "opportunity" and that is all you need for blame.. ",wasn't my fault".

Wait a minute. How did you lock the door in the first place with the fob inside? Did you used ford pass to lock it? Because if you did not then your ride was unlocked with a fob to start while you were in the pharmacy. Tisk, tisk
That's pretty much what I'm complaining about. It didn't care that the FOB was inside the truck and locked the doors. Usually I leave the FOB in the console because I hate that the truck beeps if I step out of the door. Ford Pass locked it when I told it to start, but I expected it would unlock when I put my hand on the door handle.

I live in a rural village with a population of a few thousand. I'd venture to say that leaving the FOB in the console no one will ever steal the vehicle in my hometown.

I will most likely add the keypad now,

But hey, it must be my fault guys, chastise me. And bring on the COBB tunes and all kinds of off topic stuff that makes this forum so enjoyable.

I live in an area where you can leave your keys in your vehicle, so thats what i generally do.

Ive used fordpass to start it a couple mornings when it was wicked cold and it seems to me the truck locks itself when you do that.

Hey @JoedOH not trying to put blame. But if you left the fob in your truck while you went into the store I am saying your truck was completely available for anyone to drive off with it (before you used the app to start it because then it locked the door for you).

I bought my Lariat in April 2019 and have never really had a complaint that got my blood pressure up till today.

Made a trip to the pharmacy this evening. When I went inside I left the FOB and keys laying on the console. Because this vehicle heats up so slowly while inside I used Ford Pass to start it hoping that in 5 minutes it could get the coolant up to a temp of at least 32 degrees. As a pleasant surprise Ford Pass worked this time and it started.

But, as I got to the truck and pulled on the door handle the vehicle stabbed me in the back. The door would not unlock. The truck does not have the keypad on the door and I was locked out.

Started calling friends to come and get me, but realized that there is an unlock feature in Ford Pass. And OMG, Ford Pass worked 2 times in a row.
I'm glad the app let you in!

Here's a fun one for you - 2017 Kia Optima SX (what I traded in on the Ranger):
When I got out of the car while it was running, I manually (hit the button on the door) locked it. I had the fob on me the whole time. It was not in the car. I was waiting for someone and was able to unlock the trunk (it was a proximity thing) and put in some stuff and closed it up. Walked back up to the door and pressed the button on the outside of the door to open it. Nothing. Hit the button on the fob. Nothing. Ended up crawling in through the trunk of to open it up. I was *livid*. I found later that there was a thing on the door handle I could pop open and use the key on the fob to open, but at that moment, the only way in was crawling in. This was the stupidest thing I ever had happen with a car. I'd consider it a bug to be honest.

TL;DR - FordPass is awesome.

Pardon my bluntness, but I get tired of chasing turds in stolen cars. As a cop, my shift has at least one stolen vehicle evade from us per week and it usually results in the person crashing. In addition, we recover about 5 stolen vehicles per week on average that aren't occupied. Why do people think that leaving your keys in your car, let alone a running car, is a good idea? Seems your complaint is a ridiculous one in the big scheme of things.

Opportunistic criminals don't care about their financial status or whether or not their community is a "shithole". I've seen plenty of upper class teenagers take what's not theirs for a "joy ride". Complacency is usually the biggest factor in getting something stolen!

If you have the Securicode door pad, you can lock/unlock the door with the key fob inside with the vehicle running.

I suppose I'm just not one to waste my time worrying about a problem I only have a 1/6th of 1% chance of encountering.

Lol right cuz criminals don’t come to the nice side of town to steal haha. Take it from a defense attorney, lock your shit up.

I don't know if Ford had changed on this since, haven't tried it with the truck yet. Family member bought a new Ford Escape in 2013 with intelligent access. For the longest time she would lock the Fob in the vehicle and use keypad to lock/unlock. One day we were out on a day trip to the river and I noticed when she did this the car would unlock immediately after locking. No notification (headlights flash/honk) of any kind. I presume it's to avoid getting locked out (this is obviously a pre-FordPass vehicle). She stopped locking in fob in the vehicle after that day.
