Hello again all!

Just got my Ranger a few weeks ago up here in the cold of Michigan. After parking it in the garage and having to pull it out a couple of times to grab some ladders, I noticed a fair amount of liquid coming out of the muffler. My understanding, especially considering that fact that our mufflers are mounted vertically, that there are two small holes in order to let the condensed water drain out of the muffler. My concern is that the liquid, that has been leaking on the floor, seems to have quite a bit of black soot/carbon in it to the point where it's staining the concrete -__-. As evident by the attached photo (I am not sponsored by Kroger), the liquid is fairly black and dirty (ignore the blueness of it, that is from the logo on the bag).

Again my understanding of the process is that the water condenses in the muffler and then drains out the holes, especially in colder climates such as mine. Obviously, I do not plan on plugging the holes, however I'm concerned that there's too much carbon/soot build up in my muffler, due to the amount of it in the liquid....that's now stained my garage -___-.

Any knowledge and/or thoughts are greatly appreciated!

I wouldn’t be too concerned about it other than finding something to place underneath if you’re worried about your floor. The few times I’ve had my truck inside I have noticed the same thing on the floor.

Direct injection can carbon pollute.
Build up on intake valves might also occur.

I have the same deal in the garage. I just grabbed a pig mat from work and put it on the spot. Come spring time I'm going to use my new concrete surface scrubber I scored on black Friday.
And I have noticed less with the switch to 93. hmmm

No worries.. It's the nature of the beast.

Thanks for the heads up everybody! I'll be keeping the "Kroger" bags underneath for now.

I'll update the thread if it persists into the warmer months!

I'd probably just clean the floor rather than leave flammables under the exhaust

I have the same problem with my Ranger's muffler draining carbon & condensate on my driveway. My drive way didn't have a stain on it until the new Ranger. I had a 2009 Ranger and never had this staining on my driveway. It seems like Ford has a bad design on the mufflers they install on the Rangers. My 2019 Escape with the the 2.0 Ecoboost doesn't spot the driveway but the Ranger does. I may plug the drain holes with J&B weld, i would think the collected condensate will steam off once the muffler gets hot
Any Thoughts on this idea. Ps. the carbon spots on the concrete don't come up with scrubbing only pressure washing them almost get rid of them.
