i could see the brat being a pretty slick quail hunting or skeet shooting rig for lazy folks !
So long as your backseat partner isn't a former Vice Pres.

Everyone is pointing out the death trap seats in the back.....well I remember half my little league riding in the back of an open pick up, no seats for away games. Games were 30-40 minutes away max. My dad had a fiberglass shell on the back of the ol' F100 an my brother an I rode back there to my grand parents house 500 miles away.

You guessed it, no bicycle helmets either.

I only ever had one concussion and a broken nose from a bike wreck and not wearing a helmet.
I used to see a fair number of Brats here back in the day and almost everyone took the back seats out.

The seats in the rear of the BRAT were to avoid the Chicken Tax

The tax is also why you see so few import 2 door SUVs and why so many manufacturers opened plants in America to build their small trucks and SUVs.

It's a stupid tax that was enacted as protectionism for Detroit and really needs to go away, but it is still in place today.

If you have a Subaru BRAT in good condition today, it's worth a LOT more than it was new.

The Brat and Rampage were huge! Crosley had the right Idea for a compact pickup:

Step dad was a Subaru fan. We had a couple Brats around the house as a youngster. The one my sisters shared was pretty clean, but I never drove it other than around campsites.

As a young man I almost picked one up as a project. Having a proper low range and being small they can be surprisingly good off road.

Never found one clean enough for me to start on though.

I remember as a kid, no car seats, and we had an 83 Dodge Omni hatchback that my younger sister and I would sit in then back hatch area when we traveled on road trips. You couldn't get away with that now. Yet somehow I am still standing. And I drank out of the garden hose too!!!

To think we didn't have child proof caps on medicine and I'm still alive today.

I really wanted an old Subie companion to my WRX back in the early 2000s. Had I found a good starting point an offroad Brat or 3dr hatch would've been sweet.
