Been pretty cold up here, about 15 degrees now which is a warmup.​

Had some chores and drove 30 miles north to a real town, was in a Walmart type of shopping center. Came back and needed to top off washer fluid. Was only home for 10 minutes, opened the hood and a grey cat was staring at me before he/she jumped out. Haven't seen it before so if it's local its new. Insulation below hood was a little scratched up.​

Do you think it came home with me from the big city, or just crawled in once I got back?​

Didn't much like it being there, but I guess it beats mice.​

I remember growing up in the N'east we were always told to bang on the sides of our vehicles when it's cold like this. Animals will seek shelter wherever they can when it's this cold outside and this will usually scare them away and save their life.

Of course now if you do this be careful not to do it to hard. You'll probably dent your vehicle because they're made so cheap now.

Wow, way better than mice or squirrels and at least it didn't get wound up in the belt or fan.

When I was in the Army we had a Racoon take up residence in one of our deuce and halfs that was having some serious maintenance done. Apparently he was in there a while before anyone noticed and was not too happy when it came time for eviction lol. Was very entertaining from my perspective

I’d take a cat living under the hood instead of mice… Been a constant battle since we moved a few years ago. Luckily they haven’t chewed through any wires yet but they like making nests in the air intake on top of the filter. Had to fabricate a mesh screen to keep them out. There’s one inside the truck too that I can’t find and get out. I know he’s there because I find little bits of grass and droppings on the floor every now and then. I’ve learned to just live with it… Maybe I’ll get a truck cat lol

Get some cotton balls and some peppermint oil. A few drops of oil on a cotton ball and then leave them under the seats and in strategic places and there'll be no more mouse problems for a while. Rinse and repeat occasionally.

Flashback to high school. Leaving my girlfriend's house in the dead of winter. Got in my 1974 Chevy pick up, hit the key and heard this God-awful noise come from under the hood, waaaaaaaap! Then saw a cat shoot across the lawn. That fan must have hurt.

I had an old Dodge van many years ago and I had put a metal flex fan on it. Came out from my friends house one evening, turned the key, meow thunk, two halves in the driveway. Made me sick.

The cats love anything warm.

I used to have a 2001 Camaro SS. It had a functional hood scoop.

If I ever parked in the driveway, one of our cats would climb up into the scoop to nap.

The hood had a bunch of fine scratches around the scoop thanks to that SOB.

I often say that if the rest of the car had been as good as the engine I would have never sold it.
