My truck runs rough when on 1st start in the morning (Cold), Finally convinced dealer to pull codes, has a miss logged. Looks like a an injector. I did not think it would log coded.... BUT hey, they are very advanced.
How many miles did you have when you first noticed this problem ?

Not real sure because I thought it was the cold engine and rough roads. But my truck only has 32xx miles on her now.

When was your first oil change?
(I know the mustangs had head gasket issues)

I was going to change the oil at 3500, although it is not required until 10K.

Yeah, the 10 k is a little steep...good luck with the repairs.

Well I don't know what to think, I took it in for a miss when cold and these are the diagnosis I have been told thus far.
1st - Miss in #4
2nd - Coolant in #4 combustion chamber
3rd - Random miss in all cylinder
4th - The engine is so bad that it needs a long block change due to pressure in radiator after running for less than 1 minute.
5th - Possible bad fuel (I told them that is funny I use Top Tier and vary stations still happens.)
6th - Water pump leak / injector failure.
7th - FORD software does not allow us to determine any codes until vehicle is started.
Bonus question from Service Manager: Do you want to buy the Premium warranty package?

This is not a new engine, does FORD not train their mechanics?

Time to contact the upper management of that dealership and Ford’s support executives.

This article describes something vaguely similar to #2 and #4. First time I've ever heard of anything like that. Keep us updated please. It does seem odd that you are getting a wide variety of diagnostics.

I would be guessing a loose connector somewhere is the cause for the odd range of errors.

I could see a loose connector as a cause for some of them, but coolant in a cylinder? And how would an injector failure be correlated with a bad water pump in any way? These just seem to be very random....

Hi,

This sounds like a blown head gasket. how and why , I cannot imagine. Doubt we will be able to get the full story here.

Hi Folks,

Back story here. In 1981 we introduced the latest Escort. the 1.6l motor had three head gasket suppliers, will not name them..okay? Suppliers 1,2,3. All 3 supported production, but suppliers 3 was low volume production, but 100% service parts. Had a spate of low mile head gasket failures....all were Supplier 3....so when the customer service to remedy the blown head gasket, the service gasket guaranteed another failure. What a mess!
