First I’ve heard of it. What was the nature of the failure? Low on oil is an absolute death knell for any motor, especially a boosted one. And low on oil doesn’t just happen on its own on a low mileage motor. Some major details are missing here.

My motor was replaced at 32500, covered under warranty. Coolent in the cylinders, took like three months
Blown head gaskets were a known problem on early Ranger 2.3L engines and has been corrected in later engines. My mid year build 2020 has the newer engine with the revised coolant ports between the cylinders.

I would still be very cautious about continuing to drive it once the idiot light or gauge reads high. The block and head are aluminum, and they will warp when overheated.

Blowing the bottom end out is very rare.

I thought that issue was for other 2.3 variants? I thought they changed the design for the 2.3 designed for the Ranger? It is mostly the same as other variants but I do remember reading about the head gasket issue but am like 99% sure it was not an issue for the Ranger engines.

They drilled coolant ports between the cylinders in the block to even out temps. It worked well. All 2019 and some early 2020 models had the early engine. I remember researching and checking my engine date to see what was in my truck.

I am not convinced that K&N filters are superior to the stock OEM filters. You'd be surprised how little the amount of impurities are needed to destroy an engine.

I also think that there might be more going on here than we know.
K&N's marketing dept. has done a fine job convincing the general public into thinking they're superior....for the 'normal joe'. They have their place, but it's on the race track.
I used to go to local rally races where guys would race their daily driver rice burners. When they arrived they'd change their tires, make a few adjustments.....take out their OEM filter and put the K&N in. The OEMs went back in before they drove home. On days they raced on dusty back roads, they'd change their oil in the parking lot before going home because the K&N let in too much dirt.

Friday yet?

That really sucks, especially with such low mileage and good maintenance. I’ve seen a few people mention issues with the 2.3, but it doesn’t seem super common.

Reading your other post I don't think this is a ford issue.
Then with out knowing all of the service records for the vehicle, what would your great arm chair opinion of it be?

I agree, sounds like the "excellent care" that has been shown to the motor included letting it run low on oil.

"Update: On Friday I took the Ranger to the Ford dealership. It has bee there one full day. The service advisor told me that the oil was low and verified if they could do an oil change on it. I am wondering where that is coming from because the other shop did not mention anything about that. "
This is only the second motor to blow up that I recall being reported here and on the other one, “it was all the mods!”

I hope it gets covered.
Thanks. Putting this out here reminds me of why I don't like the internet. Keyboard warriors diagnosing things that they know nothing of. I literally took the truck to Ford everytime, they have all of the records on it. I am hoping for an answer (good or bad) today.

Hey thanks for you OPINION. The engine failed a month ago with the low oil pressure, now since you seem to be able to diagnose from your crystal ball why don't you give me an accurate reading? Since you KNOW it isn't a FORD problem.

I hope you do get your answer from the dealership today, and I'm sure we all hope the news is good.

That said, I'm not sure why you'd want to throw rocks at any of the forum members for asking questions about your situation, especially when they quote you directly and are wondering about what seem to be inconsistencies between your posts and your actual situation.

There is a wealth of practical experience and wisdom represented in this forum, and a great many of these guys spend a lot of time and energy researching things and sharing to help each other fix things and get the best out of our Rangers. If them taking your posts seriously and at face value is upsetting to you, you have clearly stumbled into the wrong forum.

I'm sure you have much better things to do with your keyboard time than be here.

Happy trails to ya.
