Hello! I have a 2021 Ford Ranger with turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine with 82,000km (50, 952mi). When the vehicle hit almost exactly 80, 000km the engine light came on and I was quite concerned. When checking my ford pass app, I received a notification stating "The emission control system has detected the exhaust gas recirculation pressure sensor signal is not as expected when the vehicle is at idle."

After seeing that, I refilled the gas tank, drove about 50km, and the light went away. However, I have about 2000km more of the odometer and the engine light and same message has come up again... It's worth noting I am up on oil changes (about every 8,000km) and I do a lot highway driving. Also, whenever the light comes on, it's been hot and humid outside...

I'm just wondering about the severity of this issue, and if it is something that should be dealt with asap. I'm just leery to take it to the dealer, because they wanted over $150 just to diagnose...

Also, I'm not sure if it's related or not, but every morning when I leave my house, as soon as I accelerate about 40-60kmph, I feel the truck shake, and sounds like transmission is struggling. I can see what hear I'm in by clicking (+/-) on the gear shift. It seems to be struggling around 6th gear... As soon as I give it gas and move faster, the problem goes away and doesn't happen the rest of the day... But still, definitely concerning when it happens everyday...

Thanks for listening! And I look forward to anyone's thoughts!

I don't think you specially need a dealer to diagnose and fix the problem as most top privateers have scan tools to do the diagnostics. This approach is usually cheaper than a dealer and many times the techs are a little more experienced. In any case, whether you take it to a dealer or competent shop, you will need someone with proper diagnostic tools to fix it.

thank you! Good to know. However I think I’m going to take it to the dealer, that way, if anything happens down the road, I can put it back on them...

If it's under warranty then by all means take a trip to the dealer. If not under warranty then your call

I have this going on right now. My 2020 4x4 Lariat has 55,000 miles. The engine light came on and the same warning is in the app. I've had the light go away after it sits overnight but it comes back after minutes of driving. I experience the bucking and sputtering in low RPMs. I brought it to a dealership to get it diagnosed. Thier diagnosis is that it needs "EGR - Pressure Feedback Exhaust Sensor: DPFE Sensor for P139C code (W)' Part number JT4Z9J460A. They of course didn't have the part and needed to order and install it this Thursday. Apparently, this is all covered under warranty, no cost to me (except the time without my truck) I'll keep you posted.

Wow! That's exactly the problem that I'm having, it must just be the matter of time before it happens to everyone... Surprised it's not a recall! And did you get extended warranty?? My bumber to bumber expired at 60000kms

I did not purchase an extended warranty, yet it appears to be covered.

I heard back from the dealer today (Brock Ford Niagara falls) and they confirmed the issue, it is the same as yours... They didn't have the part (of course), but should be fixed by tomorrow. They want almost $500.00!! In my opinion that's insane! Especially when this issue has nothing to do with being my fault! I am overly up on maintenance and consciously drive well for the vehicles health... I'll have a few words with management, and hopefully I can get the price lowered, or ideally completely removed... Even if I'm out of warranty, I can't see how this is my issue. Clearly poor construction is the cause of this...

I don’t have it in front of me, but I thought the emissions stuff had a longer Federal warranty (like 8 year, 80K miles) The EGR system is all emissions related. You mighT ask the dealer to double check and give their answer to your question in writing.

The key word here is FEDERAL warranty. The OP is in Canada, the US Federal rules don't apply.

That doesn't mean that Canada doesn't have its own Emissions based warranty either. The fact that many countries have stricter regulations compared to the US I wouldn't be surprised
