What's up fam? I'm looking into my first engine mod and I'm thinking of cold air intake. The price points on the aftermarket kits are a little ridiculous. Does anyone know of a way to make or achieve the benefits of a cai without paying several hundred bucks?

The stock intake is already "cold air" In that it's not drawing air from the engine bay. Also it isn't a significant restriction with the stock turbo.

Alright I might put it on the back burner in that case. I plan on doing a tune but would like to have my mods in place first. What does everyone recommend for cost effective mods? Charge pipes? Exhausts are expensive as well.

The tunes work well with everything else being stock. Unless your going to spend the extra to get a custom setup. Just save other mod money for one of the many tune options.

Charge pipes are nice hardware to have...I like looking at wrinkle painted aluminum pipes more than rubbery/plastic plumbing...exhaust kits aren't that expensive if your environment allows aluminized tubings like certain MBRP set...neither will give any if much performance gains...exhaust looses a lot of weight from OEM though...

I will agree with everuone else on here and state that the truck already has a "cold air intake" and the aftermarket doesnt really give mich better options.

What I have done with my truck is simple: Livernois Tow Tune, AEM Air Filter(dont have to oil it and so far no dirt getting past), Old Man EMU Lift with 285/70-17 Firestone Destination XT's, ARB onboard compressor, cheap rollup tonneau cover(dont remember the brand), Ford accessories bed light kit(a favorite to me!!), Hurricane Fab Tailgate Storage compartment(cool but not reversible) and Alpharex Luxx series headlights(in the process of going back to factory assemblies with PIAA lights at the moment).

Is there more to come with my truck? Yes but i haven't gotten that far yet but time will tell.

For you I say think about what you want to do with your truck first(keep it a street rod, work truck or a fun OffRoad rig). After that see what might be best to change first as there are plenty of things you can do to your truck, but not everything will do what you want and need.

I added an aftermarket filter to the stock air box an the Livernois tune an I changed the muffler an left the rest of the exhaust as is an I think my truck is way quicker than stock.

If I decide to chase a little more HP I'll go with the aftermarket intercooler pipes an maybe a 3" cat back system.
