I’ve had the Mishimoto CAI for about 2 months now and thought i’d give my review on it. I also have the FPP tune and a Gibson dual exhaust paired up with it.
There is a definite performance increase in the mid-high rpms and a sweet turbo sound to go with it. I’ve also seen an improvement in gas mileage by about 2mpg.
Build quality is outstanding and the fit and finish is the same. What led me towards the Mishimoto CAI vs the competition is that you can tell that they really tried to improve the actual design of the intake from the ground up vs just working with the box Ford developed or an intake scoop that does nothing because all of the same restrictions are in place. If you’re on the fence or shopping around for a CAI I would definitely recommend the Mishimoto CAI!

I just wish they would venture into the Diesel side of the world. The Bi Turbo guys would eat this up. No one is making a tested intake set up for the Raptors/Rangers/Everest running the Bi turbo Engines.

Thanks for the review... very helpful.
One question: any thoughts on why their we site says off-road use only?? (I would ignore that statement, just wondering why they would make it int he first place.)

It’s due to emissions, but it looks like they’re in the process of getting approval. Mishimoto’s official account posted this on April of this year:

“That is a GREAT question!

It's tough to estimate, unfortunately, however obtaining CARB approval is still in process! We're still aiming to get those stickers, but we don't have an ETA at the moment. Best VERY rough estimate is still a few months out

Thanks,

Nick.”

I think you might be stuck in the matrix. All your pics have a green hue.....?

(For reference, when filming the matrix, they gave all scenes inside the matrix a green hue)

On topic though, I am happy with my Mishimoto CAI, but still dont hear my turbo ?

Good to hear, I decided on the Mish Cai and am I between the ford or roush tune. Mish came along way in the past 7yrs, I really appreciate the r&d they do. Did you have the tune first ? Did yiu notice any difference from tune to tune + Cai?

I've been leaning towards this CAI and I do like the fit and finish of it.

Or do I wait for their snorkel? Hmm
I love me a snorkel on any truck, I think they look great and can be invaluable in the right circumstances. With that said, I would definitely go CAI, unless I was often in high dust convoys, or expected water crossing deeper than ~2 feet.

I had the Mishimoto CAI on mine and was very happy with it, but insurance said it's a no no, so it came off. I bought it mostly because it is better than the factory air box for water crossing, and I couldn't find a snorkel for the 2.3 Ranger at that time.

This CAI really amazes me, sort of wish it was out when I was looking at CAI upgrades. I can't justify the change from Roush CAI to this with the cost, especially after I did the AFE scoop. I like how Mishimoto upgrades all parts related to the intake as well.

Just was looking on stage 3, airaid seems like a pretty similar design for $100 less. Thoughts?
