Note: This is an ongoing project, still waiting for bed led light and some misc mounts. Still need to decide on onboard air.
DIY Caveat: Need to drill 2 holes each side of the bed.
Pros:
Organize your bed and tools.
Place to mount your fire extinguisher, flashlight, etc.
Easy to remove DIY panels by loosening 2 nuts per side.
Versatility of the E track and attachment accessories.
Cons:
Need to drill x2 holes per side.
May not be the look you want.
( Im still waiting for Builtright Ind to make the Ranger panels)
So, took me a few days to decide wether I should drill or not ( dilema for lots of us here in the forum...lol ) But I need mounts and holders on the truck bed! I want to be able to hang my fishing rods too.
I am posting this, in case anyone wants to do something similar.
Most stuff you see in the pics are materials you can get from Lowes or Homedepot.
I used 1x6x6 (but its actually 1x5.5 wood) 1x4 for the inside attaches to the 2 main bolts in the pics. You may use whatever wood material and size, type you like.
Notes:
My Ranger came with a factory spray in bed liner.
It has the 4 pre existing oval holes on the bed ( see pics)
I decided to drill the holes 18 inches apart, near these oem oval holes.
(I used these oval holes to be able to insert the metal brace/ backing plates).
The bolts/ screws I used are zinc coated grade 8 hex M8 x 1.25 by 40 mm length. 5/16 washers and matching flange nuts.
For attaching the Black hdpe panels, the E track mounts and quickfist clamps I used zinc coated Tek screws 1.25” and 3/4“ sizes.
I used metal brace x4 ( see pics) cut into 3.5- 4 inches as a backing plates
for the bolts. The 3M strips are optional, but made it easier to attach the backing plates.(see pics)
I also applied anti corrosion compound around the holes after I drilled. (not sure if it helps)
I attached Circlip retainers on each bolt, to prevent it from going back and falling inside the bed panels.
I decided to use E-track singles as It gives me more flexibilty on mounting it just where I need it. E-track also offers attachments like hooks, hangers, cargo strap mount etc... I also bought one of their bin. It fits my Kobalt ratchet set and misc tools.
The black HDPE material I used is optional. You can get them from Amazon.
I had 12x12 and 12x24 in 1/8 and 1/4 thickness and only cut into the pieces I need.
(Use them to cover up the wood if you want).
I dont plan on mounting or putting anything heavy ( >10lbs)
So please use your judgment when you decide what materials you use,
( stronger vs weaker wood, brackets, mounts, etc) and how you mount your items and accessories in your truck bed.
So here are the pics,
