I bought a Diode Dynamics LED Lightbar kit for my 2021 Tremor.

https://www.diodedynamics.com/stage-series-led-lightbar-kit-for-2019-2021-ford-ranger.html

Since I have ACC, I bought the two 6 inch light bars in White Driving that mount on either side of the ACC below the grille. I have been debating whether to just turn them on and off via one of the Tremor upfitter switches or to add another relay in-line to turn on and off when the up fitter switch is turned on and when the brights turn on and off.

The third option would be to do both and use two up fitter switches so that I could trip the extra relay directly with one switch or let the brights control the relay with the second switch.

Thoughts?

Just use the appropriately rated upfitter switch.

Then find 5 more accessories (ditch lights, rock lights, scene lights, etc) to keep them company…

You guys are right. I should follow the KISS method - Keep It Simple Stupid.

I tend to overthink these things sometimes.

Thanks!

wiring them to the high beams also limits how you can use / when you can use the new lights. example: off road at night i want more light but dont need high beams as im going slowly and need to see whats close. so if my extra lights were only on with high beams it would sort defeat my use of the added lights.

That’s why I suggested wiring a relay to two upfitter switches. One would complete the circuit only when the brights are on, and the second switch would directly trip the relay, bypassing the brights. That way, I could use them as supplemental brights on the road while using the auto-brights function, but I could also turn them on directly off-road.

Ultimately it is probably more trouble than it’s worth, and it would take two of the 6 switches.

Since 6 switches isn't enough already, using 2 for one light setup doesn't make sense...

?

Coming from the guy with upfitter switches who is looking at a second set of lights as I have nearly filled these using ditch and bed lights... ?

You are totally right. I am not using any of them yet, but I am sure that this would be wasting a switch.

I have the same ones (driving lens) in yellow and the (easy height adjustable) Elite Series yellow fog lights. I bought Y-splitters and used the fog lights as a trigger source for two relays and put a 5A fuse in-line to the battery to power the 6" lights. The 6" lights only come on when the fog lights are on. I have the fog lights set up in forscan to come on when turning. Both the fog and 6" light turn on while turning now even if fog lights are not turned on. I verified with Diode Dynamics that a 5A fused source is good to power both lights.

That sounds like a nice setup for the fog light version. Well done!

Here's what it looks like.
