Dash Tray Removal? WTF?

Okay so I am back here in this thread and wanted to ask about possible rattling.

I first figured out that the arm for the cell phone likes to be base-mounted as far back as possible - I think. I do get a slightly noticeable rattle from the tray. I know that part of it is from some of the damage I likely did to the tray because its been in an out a few times.

Will a square of foam under the tray sandwiched in there be enough or is there an "engineering" fix someone may have come up with?

Is this even an issue and I just need to go ahead and get that new tray?

I have not had any rattling issues, but the foam seems like a good plan.
