As one that has not quite yet fallen under the spell of @AzScorpion and his Damper Mind Tricks, I have to ask if there's a noticeable difference in the force needed to CLOSE the tailgate (asking for my wife, of course...). :)
No.

The damper is valved so that it only damps in the opening direction.

Any additional force to close the tailgate is nigh unnoticeable.

No noticeable difference but others that have damper phobia might tell you differently.

You'll ( I mean your wife ) have no trouble raising it back up.

Let's do this - If I ever decide I need the damper, I will make sure I let you know and you can donate the cost of one to an animal rescue shelter in the Forum's name - how's that? (I will post pics too) :)

Double the price... I am scared for everyone involved. As discussed previously, two is just too dangerous for one truck!

ok, animals have been brought into this conversation, and no one can resist cute puppies.
its enterred a no go zone now and there is an unfair advantage.

This thread needs to be closed down immediately.
Puppies, oooohhh I though you said poppies, as in the Wizard of Oz. Puppies just grow up to crap all over my lawn - get of my lawn kid!. Now kittiens... could be worth a damper...or not :p

We need to attach a solenoid to the latch handle. Throw a switch on the dash to release the handle.
Slowly get out of the truck, walk to the back and your tailgate is down and ready to go to work.
