Need help taking the cv shaft off completely. Have an extended cv shaft but can’t figure out how to remove the outer ends. Cant see clips anywhere to slide it off.
Tried to find other videos or threads and found nothing. I’m completely stuck and all my tools are flung across the shop

I usually just replace the whole assembly unless it is just a torn boot,

For the outer CV Joint, usually the most you can do is to cut the clamps off of the boot, clean it and regrease it - then install new clamps.

You may try cutting the Boot clamps off and looking for a circlip like the Inner Joint has.

NOTICE: Outboard joint to shaft connection are not serviceable.

I need the outboard joint off so I can install it onto a longer cv shaft for my long travel. Or is there no way to remove it?

Hey 916ranger, there is a clip underneath the bearing race that is a huge pain to remove. I tried doing that same on my own, then took it to an axle shop. They couldn’t do it either without saying they might damage the axle.

I ended up taking it to ORW and they cut off the axle near the bearing cage. Then flipped the bearing cage over and removed the c clip. Both my stock axle shafts had to be cut off in order to install my longer axle shafts.

and it’s not a c clip where you pinch the pliers to remove it. It’s just a regular c retaining clip. Hope this helps.

For reference, ORW charged $250 for one axle and $300 for the other. I took them in at separate times.

if you wanna save money and still try it yourself, I think a tool like this might work, although im Not 100% sure it will work but from watching some videos it looks pretty promising. Last resort you can just cut the axle yourself with an angle grinder.

I’ll definitely try it myself and if worst comes to worst I’ll take it in. Thanks for the help!

Question, did your cv shaft from Baja kits fit into the oem tripod bearing? Or you went with another company

Yes, they used my stock cv ends. The tripod should go in. You might have to tap it with a mallet if it doesn’t feel like it’s going in. It might be pressed in from the factory.
