Well, while installing the leveling kit, I torqued up the cv pretty badly. Had to pull it, take it apart, repair it, and reinsert.

The truck has started to make a little noise on the side. I was under it today doing something else (ok - installing a inch), and I noticed cv joint grease on the frame. Looks like they are only around $200, so that isn't so bad, but I still have PTSD from the leveling kit install, so I do not look forward to doing it.

Probably going to have to order it and man up.

That's why it is recommended to separate the shaft from the hub before installing the lift.

It’s a pretty easy swap out to do yourself. I replaced my driver side with no issue. I’ll always pull the CV now

Where is the grease coming from? Did you run the truck with a torn boot? Is the boot torn? Did you add enough and the correct grease to the joints when you put them back together?

Of all the parts on these trucks, a CV is a simple swap. With my Subi I was down to about 30 minutes per side to swap them.

Over extending them can damage them - and really for 200 bucks it is a cheap mistake to make... next time I would recommend using a ratchet strap or something similar to hold the hub so it doesn't pull on the axles. Also do not remove the axle nut unless you 100% have to and are ready to hold the hub.

It is a bummer you had such trouble with the install, and now this. On the bright side, you have already done it once so what is another time?

Boot does not appear to.be torn. Tbh, not sure where the grease is coming from. But, given that it's due over the cv axle I fixed, that must be it.

Install of a new probably ain't too terrible. I was surprised when I took it out to fix it before how easily the axle came out. I replaced one on an X5 that very hard to get out.

Anyways, it what it is.

I have yet to attempt this. My front Eibachs are still in the box. It looks easier to go in from the lower control arms instead of the UCA, esp if you don't intend to upgrade them ( only lifting 1" - 1.5"). No need to pull the axle nut from the bottom, right?

The consensus on 5GRanger appears to be go in from the top. Am I missing something obvious?
