In addition to resetting the BMS, you must follow the additional procedures that are the secret to a successful battery replacement.....
!. The front of the Ranger must be pointed/facing Dearborn, Mi. The closer to pointing dead center at the Ford Headquarter building, the better.
2. You must then skip, backward, counter-clockwise, around your Ranger 3 times.
3. While skipping, you must spell out FORDRANGER, backwards, as many times as you can, minimum number of 5 times. That's REGNARDROF...

If there is any type of interruption, longer than 90 seconds, between performing any of the 3 procedures, than you'll have to start all over again. This means no stopping for a beer between each procedure.

No no no, a strong beer is absolutely required to make this work.

A potentially stupid question if I may? If you bypass the BMS, do you need to do all the brights/brake pedal stuff?

You should probably get the charging system checked.

Unless you have the tools to check things out yourself

You asked.

New battery in place & BMS reset. All of the anomalies that I mentioned in my original post seem to have resolved...... so far! Finger's crossed.

Thanks for all the input!!!

Hi All,

New guy here. I have a 19 Ranger Lariat that I bought new. Right around 82k on the clock. Great truck, and I've had few if any problems with it; until now. Just like some other members, I've run into some anomalies with my Charging System.

In my case, the "Charging System, Service Now" light comes on in the left dash panel. When I hit the OK button, that sends the notification down to a small Battery Icon next to the odometer reading. After a few minutes, the Battery Icon disappears and I go on my merry way. This happens just about every time I drive the truck. This has been going on for a few weeks now.

Lately, when I get in the truck, the Touch Screen illuminates with the notification below. This is before I even start the truck. When I turn the ignition on, it goes away.

The other thing that is happening is that when the notification above goes away, the touch screen shows that the radio is not on even though it was on when I turned off the truck.

Once I turn the radio on, everything goes back to normal.

Outside of these "notifications" there are no drivability issues with the truck. Before I start digging in to this, I figured I'd check with the experts to see if anybody knows what's going on? As a side note, the truck still has the original battery.

Any input is appreciated! Thanks!
Time for a new battery.
I'm having same issues, along with change of tone in my warning bells (tinny, hi pitched tones have replaced the mellower tones).
Going to Costco to buy a new battery today after work.
You've done well to keep the original battery so long!

It's nice to know there are some subtle clues telling us the battery is on it's way out before it completely craps out.

A quick update... After swapping in the new battery all was good.... for a day or two. The Charging system light came on again shortly after startup, but went off within a minute or two. It got me to thinking about a comment that shovelhd made early on in this thread about "taking mostly short trips in the truck and the BMS under charging the battery".

One of the things I've noticed about the Ranger is that it ALWAYS seems to "short shift". When driving normal, it always shifts WELL before I would typically shift if I was driving a manual. I did a little test to see what kind of rpms I was getting at cruising speeds (40 mph on the street). The truck was turning 1300-1500 rpms when the Charging System light came on.

The next day, on startup, I put the truck in Sport Mode and drove it a little more aggressive. At 40 mph, the truck was turning 2500 rpms and was shifting around 3000 rpms and the Charging System light never came on. Over the next few days, I've started every trip in Sport Mode and the Charging System light has not re-appeared. Is it possible that in Drive, the truck never get's enough rpms, so it's under charging a battery that is already being under charged by the BMS?

Was the charging system light a red battery symbol on the dash? If so, there is a problem with the charging system that needs to be addressed, probably the alternator or a slipping belt.

At first, I would get the full error in the notification tray (see first pic in my original post) and that would clear to a little red battery icon that would eventually disappear.
