Recently my heat has been acting strange. Occasionally the fan speed changes to maximum without me touching the controls. The AC button also lights.

That doesn't work in the winter.
That's what the operator's manual calls it. I can only select the fan speed and approximate temperature by rotating the two knobs that control those settings. I don't have controls to select a desired cabin temperature.

I normally keep my temperature setting at just before the maximum setting. The maximum setting automatically jumps the fan speed to the maximum level. Maybe the knob reading signal to the computer is noisy and it is erroneously detecting a slight turn clockwise and commanding the fan speed to maximum. I am going to try reducing the temperature knob further counter clockwise to increase the rotation distance from maximum temperature.

Even though you have the (Manual) climate control - The Blower Control is still Variable Speed
Based on inputs from the FCIM that it receives.
1. Current Selected (Temp) which is moving the Temp Door Actuator
2. Feedback Temps from:
a. OAT (Outside Air Temp)
b. Humidity Temp Sensor
c. Air Discharge Temp Sensors (Panel & Foot)

When Max Defrost is selected - the Blower automatically ramps up to (Max)
Even though you have a (Manual) system - it is still partially automatic

Just like my 2005 XLT Ranger.

I thought all XLT models had the 8" screen with touch controls and dual temps.

Negative: It is an upgrade to the 301A Package to get the Lariat Standard (Dual Auto)

Like AT says above, that would be an upgrade.

I have an XLT with the 300A package - basic, bare bones, stock XLT. It comes with the same small infotainment screen, radio, heater, a/c controls found on the XL but you do get that sweet XLT instrument cluster, which is different than the XL and was included in some lucky Lariat builds when Ford ran out of chips/parts a few years ago.

The only reason I stick around here is all the bright people. I keep learning new things.

If I haven't said it lately.... Thanks to all you folks for sharing your knowledge!
