I've had issues with my truck since new. Been to the dealer for poor shifts at least 8 times. After numerous transmission relearns, two new valve bodies, a new torque converter, it seems Ford finally fixed the problem with TSB 25-2134.

This time, the weather went below freezing for the first time this year. The truck sat for about a week in the airport parking lot. Turning out onto the road from my company parking lot, I had no power, just revving, until it clunked into gear. Very rough shifting after for a few miles until everything warmed up, then mostly normal. I called the dealer once they opened and scheduled an appointment for next week.

I was worried that they would find nothing or just reset the trans software again, so I left a copy of the new TSB that doesn't require a road test. I also had them hold onto the vehicle for a few days to simulate a cold start.

Service advisor texted me the next day and said they're overhauling the trans and completing the TSB. Finally.

NOTE: Advise the customer that this vehicle is equipped with an adaptive
transmission shift strategy which allows the vehicle's computer to learn the
transmission's unique parameters and improve shift quality. When the adaptive
strategy is reset, the computer will begin a relearning process. This relearning
process may result in firmer than normal upshifts and downshifts for several
days.

At 61,336 km, it finally seems to be repaired. The truck hasn't driven this smoothly even when new. Hopefully this is the end of this.

If anyone else is still having issues with their transmission, I'd recommend finding a dealer that is willing to run the tests in the new TSB. This dealer has been really easy to work with, unlike one I went to that could never replicate the issue.

I was seriously considering trading this truck in if they couldn't fix it, despite the money I've spent on it. I'm glad I can keep this truck now.

Wish mine would fail completely and be overwith , but hope is dosent leave a mess or parts in the road ... I will be the happiest broke down Ranger owner you've ever witnessed! Smiles and selfies all the way to the same f'n dealer that has ignored my cries for help since I've owned it... they know me a little now 😏, if this ever gets to go down , I expect my picture will end up on the wall after I leave...

I'm glad it's fixed. My compliments to whoever wrote up that job report. I used to write things like that in my work as a marine tech, and the people in the office who had to type it up hated my guts; but hey, what was he supposed to write? "Fix transmission, 40 hours?" I wish that dealer was near me. I would go there in a heartbeat.

Good to see Ford finally acknowledged this issue with a proper TSB instead of just throwing parts at it like they were doing before.

So has anyone figured out what is different Besides the drum replacement that makes them shift better? When it’s really cold here and if I start and go mine goes into 2nd gear and there’s nothing there. Let it warm up for 10 minutes and it shifts somewhat normal..

Off the top of my head. IMHO, the CDF sleeve moved due to excessive heat from the issues below. It is a skidmark, not the initial accident. If temperatures are lower, the migration issue goes away. It is why I am following GM's lead on their 10R80 cousin, and will be attempting to lower the fluid temps to 150F-160F.

Essentially the same transmission but no CDF sleeve issues. Ask yourself why.
  • New Valve body (and solenoids).
  • Fresh Transmission Fluid
  • New Transmission Filter
  • Updated Firmware

Tony, I’m on board with the mod with the trans cooler. Let me know if I can do anything to help you with this project.
‘On another note I up my SOC to 95% and installed a on board desulphat/charger..

You're very kind.

I think the only real issue thast is of some concern is the space behind the grill. I Have not looked into that area yet, and the unknown is a bit worrying., I've pruchased 20" fo PTFE AN8 hose and enough fittings (with a few to spare in case I encouter a tight radius. PTFE won't make sharp turns without kinking. I've hose got pair guides to keep them parallel the entire route, just need to insure they are away from everything and have just enough flex at key points. most lilely only back at the transmission where it will see some slight torque movement.

Theoretically it is simple, practically, it's a little more difficult to insure a robust sound installation.

Got side tracked this week when my 2005 Ranger sprang a gas leak at the tank. Parts are on order and should be here by the 19th. Gotta fix that one first, then its oil change time for 3 cars (including the 2020 Ranger)... then it is transmission cooling mod time. Hopefully, beginning in a couple of weeks. The it is Levernois upgrade time... I picked it up due to the tranmssion remapping in the tune. I'm tired of the lugging... it heats up the transmission too much.

Since the 2005 Ranger is already in the work garage with the lift I may go ahead and change the oil in it in the next day or so. The crawl under and scratch some knuckles getting the fill hose replaced. I'm too lazy to ull the bed again, but if the fill hose isn't damaged I'll be doing hat anyway. Come to thinkof it I may just break out my camera and feed it up brtween the bed and fuel tank top, snap a few pictures to see if I can find a ruptured hose somewhere.. That should tell the story and save some time.

Once I start the work on the trans cooler project I'll open a thread with details on the effort.

I have a tune in my truck already from Torrie and the torque plus trans tune and works much better and also had him up the shift rpm and remove the lockup till 6gear.

So, what is the cooler install plan? Are you planning to directly cool the transmission fluid through an aux cooler after the it exits the transmission fluid heat exchanger (TFHE) before going back to the transmission, or are you planning to run the coolant that goes to the TFHE through an aux cooler before it goes to the TFHE? My though would be that it's likely safer to add additional cooling to the coolant before it gets to the TFHE.
