Add my dad to the list (RIP Last year ?)! He was a *very* german automotive engineer (safety inspector, I remember him working with GM, Ford, Volkswagen, etc throughout the years) his whole life and was the biggest gear head I knew. While most of the time he was complaining about engineering in cars, he was a big Ford fan and always wanted to see me in one lol.
I got my 2021 Ranger a few months ago, and how I wish I could show him the truck!! He would have had a field day looking at it & under it and taking it on “tests”. We would have had so much fun rambling about the Rangers engineering. I know he must have been relieved when I traded in my old Jeep that he would always get annoyed with LOL!

btw this is my first post on this Forum, I’ve been lurking for a while but am, super excited to join the ranger community :)
Welcome, and what an honor for your dad to be about your first post. Glad you are excited and hope we don't spoil your expectations of this forum. You started on a weird thread.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who crawled under the truck within days of getting the vehicle. My first thoughts were how to run wiring and get a game plan together for materials. Was nice to see quite a bit of sound deadening across areas, found a dangling heat shield that the dealer promptly fixed.

Was under there last night contemplating how to address the road noise from the rear wheel arches and address the problem at the source. My guess is since the wheel wells are a hard plastic as opposed to the front arches that are felt, combined with the larger enclosed area between the bed and exterior panel, the entire void is just one large resonate drum. Need to figure out what material would work best to reduce the resonance of those areas.

Any thoughts from our resident guru's. I'm thinking some sort of polyester jute attached to the inside of the arches along with a roll on sound deadening on the interior panels. Whatever the material, it needs to be weather proof and rodent resistant.

You should put in a disclaimer for the people who are scared to see their engine to not crawl under their truck.

I think it's because of this:

That guy is my dad , he's mostly harmless, was off his meds for a few days . Says he is sorry (stills says he's not wrong about any of it , stubborn old man) sorry to almost everybody , he does like the truck , and i assure you its the nicest one he has ever had ... Anyway , he SHOULD NOT have made the moderator kick him , he could have just left , he apoligies to the moderator for that, that was a dick move ... wishes everybody many years of trouble free Ranger fun ...

That's humorous, and a shame....

I see I have had a post deleted on a thread belonging to a member who should be banned.

how ironic.
Not that it's any of your business but he messaged me and apologized. I believe in giving some the benefit of the doubt and it takes a bigger person to own up to it. The reason he was banned was because he asked to be.

Maybe stop trolling him and move on if you don't like his post.

He never did until you said this. You know the saying "those who live in glass houses" right?

but he's back under some alias and thinking he's tricked a few people.
must be one very lonely man.

I will tell you a back story about frames... I was a vocal advocate of a Boxed frame...Bean counters shouted "too expensive" Package engineers shouted "We need the C section frame to protest the precious fuel and brake lines AND the wiring... I was frustrated because I wanted a less flexible frame... Then when I found that Ranger had the boxed frame I was a happy camper. Like your dad, I crawled under my Ranger the day I brought it home. Wife sighed and mumbled those famous words...."Damn Engineers". I too was impressed by what I saw and was very happy that the Ranger continues to strive for the heritage of being Ford Tough!'.

So we had a frame cracking issue on the heavy duty E350 prototypes. Ford requires...No Frame cracking, so the Powers that Be dictated a frame doubler, a stamped C section that fit inside the frame C section and was welded in place. By gosh that was going to fix the problem....Guess what...frame cracked at the end of the doubler rear wards. So the powers that be dictated the doubler be extended by 6 inches. Darn....frame now cracked behind the lengthened doubler...So the powers that be dictated another 6 inches. Same result. Then this engineer that had done some calculations said to increase the frame thickness by 0.010 inches....Powers that be said it will not fix it as WE powers that be cannot be wrong. But...we followed this lowly engineer's advice and...no cracking and the Powers that be said....Start Production! Sigh...

Best,
Phil
