Thanks for the explanation Phil of a plant drive. I feel better about the few miles that were on my truck.

Very scary experience about the guy going through the paint oven.

My driveshaft center bearing showed signs of being moved.
The pictures are in another thread since it looks like I’ve deleted them.
I assumed it was not torqued during assembly and moved when another part was installed, such as the rear end.
I loosened mine, tried to wiggle, bounce and retighten it. No difference in more or less vibration but it was still there 1k miles ago

My vibration has become unnoticeable lately. No idea why but I will still be looking for it, can’t imagine why it would disappear unless mileage and keeping my foot in it would make the difference. I have been mixing it up using S mode more often.

First...terminology. It is a Driveshaft Center Bearing.
Not to beat a dead horse here, but it is VITAL that you use the correct terminology with regards to anything automotive as Phil explained about. He mentions the driveshaft center bearing, I personally refer to them as driveshaft support bearings, at least in automobile parlance.

Some GM manufacturers in the mid sixties dreamed up some lofty descriptions for ordinary automotive parts in their shop manuals:
  • Spherical joint (Cadillac)
  • Propeller shaft (Cadillac)
  • Ash receiver (Olds)
  • Wheel discs (Olds)
I get a laugh at how some aftermarket manufacturers describe positions on the vehicle as "drivers" and "passenger" sides. Left and right sides on a vehicle are ALWAYS referenced from the seating position within the vehicle, looking forward. Can you imagine the calamity with a right drive vehicle if you should order a drivers door and receiving a left door instead?

We're all human, I am still learning Sync 3 myself...

That is the first one I've heard about on these forums. That is crazy - you probably lost the bolts, huh? I'm guessing they dropped out at some point - where did it fall off? Looks like that is in a parking garage?

It started vibrating on the freeway and came just as I was getting off onto the exit.

A little off-topic, but not... I had a tarp get wrapped up on the driveshaft while driving on the freeway this weekend. I had to get under and cut it off. Part of it melted on/into the carrier boot/bushing. Can anyone share a picture of the rear face of their carrier? Want to see if mine looks normal or if some of the rubber surrounding the bearing has melted away.

Hi Charly,

Weird. I have seen a few driveshaft related problems, but not a tarp! Worse was a box spring from bedding. Awful trying to remove the spring wire.

Good Luck with your remedial efforts.

Thanks Phil. Running just fine but I still have some concern. I’ve got a busy week and can’t get the truck in to service. Hoping someone can provide a good picture of both the front and back faces of the carrier so I can compare.
